An underrated food and wine hub in the foothills of the Macquarie Ranges.
If you’re looking for foodie experiences or boutique winery visits off the typical tourist trail, Molong is the ideal spot to set up camp. Tucked in the sloping foothills of the Macquarie Ranges, the small town is hemmed in on all sides by cattle and sheep stations, vineyards, and orchards. Molong camping options include checking into the town’s caravan park or showground campground, both of which have powered sites and space for large motorhomes. Alternatively, Goobang National Park and the Canobolas Nature Preserve both offer camping, while Hipcamps dot the surrounding area with useful amenities like fire pits and toilet access. Once you’ve explored the small centre with its many heritage buildings, head out to the wineries of the Orange wine region to sample cool-climate wines and sip craft ciders. From summer through fall, you can also pick your own fruit in the apple, cherry, and berry orchards. Follow it with lunch at a country pub, or pack a picnic and head out to nearby Borenore Caves.
