Chapman Valley

219 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents6000 acres · Garland Valley, NSW
With it’s large, secluded Bush Campsites, 'Chapman Valley' is still Sydney's best kept secret! Picture this. Your weekend escape is relaxed from the very start - the car trip along the scenic winding Putty Road is slow and leisurely as you know you can arrive at any time for the self serve check-in. After signing in, you meander through this Beef Cattle farm, heading to your own designated camping area. A private corner of the property all to yourselves! After setting up camp, and showing off your awesome (of course) campfire lighting skills, you sink back in your camp-chair and listen to ...the bush. And you see ...the bush. Not a single other camper in site. Oh, except the ones you invited with you of course! There they are. The kids running enthusiastically across the open paddock chasing after their footy, with Buster, the family dog happily nipping at their heels. "They'll sleep well tonight!" you think to yourself happily, as you sink further into your camp-chair and take a long drink on that ice cold beer. 1hr drive from the nearest town (Singleton), "Chapman Valley" is the perfect oasis for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. There are no nearby shops so be sure to bring everything with you. The property offers over 100kms of bush tracks ideal for walking, push-bike riding or 4WDing. On site-horse riding is available, offering rides ranging from 1hr family rides to full day experienced rides. Check out our website for a full list of offerings. Tomah Retreat

3 sites · Lodging5 acres · Mount Tomah, NSW
An adults-only bright, romantic studio beneath the main house with its own entry, a gorgeous Ergoflex queen-sized bed, a luxurious raindrop shower, and a glorious outlook over the green garden and Japanese Tori gate. Your own fireplace, bookshelf, sideboard kitchenette, toaster, hot plate, coffee machine, choice of teas - you'll never leave your beanbag. Also: Reiki Treatments, Meditation classes, visit the suspended bed in the treehouse or walk the labyrinth plus free infrared sauna. Tomah Retreat is a precious retreat on 5 lush acres in the Blue Mountains where the only thing that is farmed are vegetables with a great big dollop of love and compassion - here the animals roam free. The Tomah Retreat has been the base for the International House of Reiki and meditation classes since 2002 and continues to be so. When it's not busy with that, it is creating a healing space for individuals or couples who are looking to get away from a busy world. In other words - YOU. The Tomah Retreat is also a healing home for many animals who have come from rescue backgrounds. There are 2 more couples studios on the property, CHILL and BREATHE, which you can book to create an entire retreat for your family and/or friends. Bronwen has put together a number of unique experiences that you can enjoy when you stay at the Tomah Retreat. Bronwen will specifically cater these treatments or classes to your needs. Bookings are essential and can be made at "Tomah Retreat dot com". The gardens are shared with the guests of the other 2 studios on the property, Studio Breathe and Studio Chill. Ask Bronwen to tell you a little about the Living Labyrinth she built from 800 dwarf buxus plants - before you go and walk it. It's a great contemplative tool and will support your inner healing during your stay. Head up to the Treehouse and make yourself comfortable in the suspended ergoflex queen bed, let the breeze tussle your hair, and watch the world go by - sometimes all we need is somewhere quiet to sit and BE for a while, before heading back into the fray. The infrared sauna sits in its own building where you can look out over the garden while enjoying its wonderful health benefits. It's free to enjoy, just book your time with Bronwen when you arrive. The smallest things can be healing, like snuggling up in front of the firepit, patting a cat, reading one of our many self-help books or novels, drinking tea, just listening to the birds, or playing with a dog. We are obviously being extra careful at this time. We have taken precautions to increase cleaning and disinfection, particularly on frequently touched surfaces. We're also asking that you please practice safe hygiene and remain at home if you feel unwell.

Cabins near Wisemans Ferry with campfires guide

Overview

With its prime location along the banks of the Hawkesbury River and surrounded by national parks, Wisemans Ferry is the gateway to central New South Wales. Ride the historic cable ferry across the river, uncover Australia’s convict history along the Old Great North Road, or take to the water for a boat cruise or kayak excursion. Campsites and caravan parks dot the riverside, and the neighboring Dharug National Park is also a favourite for campers. Pitch your tent at Mill Creek and enjoy direct access to the park’s hiking and mountain biking trails.

Where to go

Hunter Valley

The Macdonald River winds its way north from Wisemans Ferry all the way into the Hunter Valley wine region. Stop to visit the colonial town of St Albans—lunch at the riverside pub is a must—before exploring the wild landscapes of the Yengo National Park. There’s a wide range of bushland hikes, 4WD excursions, and mountain bike trails in the park, plus several camping grounds and picnic areas to choose from.

Blue Mountains

Southwest of Wiseman’s Ferry, the Blue Mountains National Park is the outdoor getaway of choice for day-trippers from Sydney. Ride the Scenic Railway or Cableway to admire dramatic gorges and waterfalls, spot kangaroos and koalas as you hike through lush eucalyptus forests, and see the famous Three Sisters rocks. Tourist parks provide camping near all the main attractions, while tranquil farm stays and bush campgrounds offer a back-to-nature experience.

Central Coast

If you tire of riverside activities, the beaches of NSW’s Central Coast are less than a 2-hour drive from Wiseman’s Ferry. Broken Bay is a water sports hotspot at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River, while popular destinations such as Avoca, Shelly, and Pelican lie just to the north.  Enjoy swimming, surfing, and boat cruises along the coast, play a game at an oceanside golf course, then check into a beachside campsite.

When to go

Summer (December through February) is peak season in Wiseman’s Ferry, and it’s best to book campsites in advance if visiting at this time. Spring and autumn provide the ideal weather for bushwalking and camping in the national parks, and the natural landscapes are at their most colorful, scattered with spring wildflowers or fall foliage. The town falls quiet in winter, but most campsites remain open year-round, and rates are often lower.

Know before you go

  • There are buses to Wisemans Ferry from Sydney, but you will need your own transport to explore the surrounding national parks.
  • Wisemans ferry has a number of general stores but for specialist camping gear you might need to go to Sydney, about a 1-hour drive away.
  • Fire bans are common in New South Wales during summer and dry periods, so check local recommendations before heading out.
