Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is great for families and kids.
Our property is located on the site of the First Kilkivan Township and was home to a gold rush in 1868 where a 73 oz nugget was discovered. Guests will have access to a portable toilet and fire pit throughout their stay. Gold is still found in and around the creek with fossicking permitted at an extra daily rate of $25 per person. As this is private property we require that all the QLD Fossicking Act rules and regulations are followed this includes having your own permit which must be supplied before fossicking is permitted. These rules include no machinery or pump operated sluices such as high banking sluices. Detectors are welcome and some great finds have been found with them including gold and coins from the 1860’s. Large groups are welcome. There are many great shaded camping spots along the creek or a large open area of about 50 acres for larger groups. There is also a year round swimming hole fed by a solar bore on the property for anyone wanting to cool down. Kids under 12 are free but if fossicking must be covered by a permit. Pets are welcome. Peaceful bush camping by the creek
Nev was a fantastic host. He was very welcoming and relaxed, and was kind enough to drop off a ute-load of firewood for us after we had a yarn. This is a large property with many camp site options (both out in the open and shaded by trees) and plenty of creek bed to explore. It’s perfect for tent/swag camping and can easily accommodate camper trailers/off-road caravans as well. If you are looking for a peaceful bush camp with minimal amenities (fire pits and porta-loos), this property is highly recommended. Thanks Nev, we had a great time and will definitely be back!

Serene and grounding
I loved camping at McSweeny Haven. It’s a serene property with beautiful cattle who roam freely through the camp sites. Not to mention the outstanding hospitality of Neville and his beautiful dogs (helping us with firewood, property info/activities and gold panning tips). Neville is a great host who offered advice and checked in daily to ensure we had all that we needed. Such a salt of the earth character. Beautiful creek and landscape to explore. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful spot for the whole family
This spot is perfect for large groups and dogs. The owner was so helpful, gave us firewood and slashed a hiking trail on the property for us all. The creek was fresh and running well. We really enjoyed our stay here 😊
