The ultimate Farm Solitude Camping experience. If you want to get away from it all and relax in a secluded Campsite surrounded by beautiful Native Bushland or explore miles of trails, gullies, caves, Flight Springs Creek and the exquisite Bow River, take some time to camp at Hillside, which is a remote 2000 acre working cattle property situated 23km west of MERRIWA, 14 km off the Golden Highway, adjoining the Goulburn River National Park. All sites are in secluded area's far away from each other but at busy times people may pass by some sites to access the river. There are plenty of walking trails and for the enthusiastic bushwalker, the Bow River winds its way 7km down to the Goulburn River through the National Park with its gentle flowing stream and rock pools nestled between sandstone cliffs of caves with open area's. All sites are pet friendly, but pets must be kept on leash and cleaned up after. Note: The National Park holds their annual wild dog baiting program from 20/5/24 - 8/10/24 Which is done along our boundary on Bow River. It is safer not to have your dog in this area at this time. If you decide to, make sure it is kept on leash at all times and doesn't eat anything that could be laying around. Campfires are allowed when there are no restrictions and campers can collect their own small firewood. Cut firewood is available for $10 per/large bundle, cash only. There is an abundance of wildlife; Kangaroos, Wallabies, Wombats, Foxes, Emu's, Goanna's, Lizards, Snakes, Echidna's, water Dragons, Turtles, Fish, Eagles and plenty of Birds to see. 4WD and High vehicles are recommended as tracks have rocky outcrops and some areas of loose sand. The Bow River area is strictly 4WD access as it is steep with loose gravel. New for Hipcampers and opening soon are our Outback 4WD Tracks. Explore around 20km of tracks with something for everyone from the first timer to the very experienced driver. "Gully View Campsite" is the closest site to the property entrance. It is ideal for people who will be travelling back and forwards from the property to attend other events. It is also ideal for those travelling in groups who want to be together but to also have their own private space to set up in for some time-out. It can also be set up as a communal campground for large groups. There are plenty of trails for Horse Riding (you will need to provide your own temporary fencing). Guests are required to be fully self-contained with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. Some Campsites now have toilets. At certain times some sites may be unavailable due to Cattle grazing in the same paddock. Cows are very curious and can be destructive to your vehicle and belongings. Phone Service is very limited in this area. If you email a request, it may take a few hours for us to reply. WARNING: There are many areas of cliff edges and shear drops! Children must be supervised at all times while exploring these areas. There are also dams at or near some of the campsite areas that could be dangerous if children wander off exploring alone. The best camping near Lake Glenbawn State Park guide

Overview

About

Filled with bass and yellow perch, the human-made Lake Glenbawn is considered one of the best freshwater fishing sites in New South Wales. The expansive reservoir is also the perfect spot for other water sports like boating and waterskiing, or simply taking in the stunning lake views from scattered camping sites on the eastern foreshore. Most campers stay at the Lake Glenbawn Reflections Holiday and Caravan Park, where options range from fully equipped cabins and villas to powered caravan sites and unpowered pads right on the beach. The park is a big hit with kids thanks to several playgrounds, a recreation center, and a pool in summer.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Book your site or cabin in advance online at the Reflections Holiday and Caravan Park website.
  2. Easter weekend and summer holidays are the most crowded times, so book far in advance if you're determined to go then.
  3. A holiday waiting list is available if you don't grab a spot in time.

When to go

Spring and autumn bring fewer crowds and ideal weather for lounging by the lakeshore. If visiting in May, head to the nearby village of Scone to catch the annual Scone Horse Festival, featuring a rodeo, carnival, and concerts. Or get into the Scottish spirit at the Aberdeen Highland Games, celebrated each July.

Know before you go

  • If you forget something, a kiosk selling basic necessities like fuel and ice is often available on weekends. For more provisions, a well-stocked supermarket is available nearby in Scone.
  • Be sure to bring a shade structure when camping during summer, as many sites are unshaded.
  • Pets are allowed at the Reflections Holiday and Caravan Park. Call the park directly to book if you’re planning to bring a canine family member.
  • Cabins are equipped with towels, linens, and cookware.

Nearby attractions

  • The calm waters behind Lostock Dam are perfect for campers looking to get out for a paddle or swim.
  • Chichester Dam is a popular destination for camping and outdoor recreation. With ample space for tents and campers, it offers a scenic setting for nature enthusiasts. The area provides opportunities for fishing, hiking, and exploring the surrounding beauty.
