Cartwright Springs Brewery

4 sites · RVs, Tents77 acres · Renfrew, ON
Our micro brewery is located here because of our springs. The campsites are within walking distance to the brewery. The sites are in the forest with either a view of the pond, of Cartwrights Creek or of the Ottawa valley from a hillside. We have short hiking trails, some outdoor games such as horseshoes or beach volleyball, and we have beer. Contact Andre by texting 613-295-3377 FIRE: You must contact Andre before lighting a fire so a permit can be acquired. No fires before 6. GARBAGE: Please collect garbage and bring it with you. We unfortunately cannot accept garbage at the brewery. The municipality limits us to one bag and we have animals that would love to rip through your garbage bag before I can get to it. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE GARBAGE HERE! FOOD... don't leave food out for animals to get overnight... If you don't have a car you can put your food in the silo by the brewery... animals can't get in there!

Off-grid Waterfront Forest Camp

4 sites · RVs, Tents20 acres · South Frontenac, ON
Learn more about this land: Welcome to our Off-grid Waterfront Forest Campground!  We have 20 Acres (mostly forested) and 4 campsites to choose from for both tent campers and RV/trailer campers.  There is plenty of space to pitch your tent and a large area for parking. The site is suitable for RVs 45 feet or less (you will be parking on grass/gravel). The trail to the water is about a 10 minute hike from the parking area. The water has quite a lot of algae by the shore. Great for paddling or fishing not so much for swimming. There are multiple fire-pits scattered across the property. Compost toilet outhouse is by the parking area next to the shipping container. Choose from multiple sites from a grassy/gravel semi-private area near the driveway with car access or hike up the bedrock (50metres from driveway) for an amazing view of the stars and moon, or for optimal privacy, there are campsites available along the trails in the forest. We are located right by the Rideau Canal, Lock 45 - Lower Brewers (please note that bridge is currently under construction - access is through Sunbury road or Battersea) We also have many trails and lakes nearby and Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area is only a 20-minute drive. This is a great hike close to Kingston, especially in the fall. The track is also groomed for XC Skiing in the winter. This is one of many possible hikes here and takes me between 1 and 2 hours. It's a great escape if you just have a little time.  We run our property solely on solar energy so electrical output is minimal. There is a 3 prong extension cord available for use by the outhouse that can take small loads such as lights, charging electronics, and higher loads during sunlight hours. Campfires are permitted (firewood available at 5$/crate), pets are welcome, and potable water is available on the property. We also have wifi and cell reception!

Black Maple Farm

4 sites · Lodging, Tents6 acres · Harrowsmith, ON
For the last 25 years we have lived here on our 6 acres of property where our Maple Sugar Bush allows us to produce our very own maple syrup every spring. [Side note: The sugar shack itself has been on the property for over 40 years.] We also raise a small but varied collection of farm animals, grow vegetables, and operate a 3 generation (Mother, Daughter, and Granddaughter) Artisan Craft Business, that sells handmade "Canadiana Themed" Home Decor goods and Maple Products at our local Farmer's Market. ( Visit us on Instagram or Facebook @Blackmaplefarm) Our Farm is located on the very edge of the Canadian Shield, so most of the landscape is a rocky, rugged, and naturally wooded. Throughout the property are numerous short, looping, walking trails that meander throughout the Sugar bush, pasture area, 3 season pond, and our farm animal "homes". These trails are perfect for short nature walks, where you'll experience natural wildflowers and plants, see and hear song birds, small animal wildlife and of course, farm life too. We are also located on the edge of the Eastern Ontario "Dark Sky" Area, which means we have a very nice view from the edge of our pasture of the North Sky stars on a clear night, with very minimal light pollution. Our varied collection of farm animals includes; lots of chickens, (including roosters who DO crow in the early morning hours), miniature goats, horses, a couple of barn cats, and a dog. During your stay with us you are welcome to come learn about and interact with our animals and daily farm life, if you so desire, and farm fresh eggs and maple syrup are also available to purchase too.

Gorgeous, serene 38 acres of pristine woodlands, trails and meadows. Our property is named after our large White German Shepard, don’t worry she’s friendly. Stay in our trailer and enjoy the sounds and sights of nature. Take a stroll down our personal trails, or bring your four-wheelers/bikes and enjoy the 1000s of kilometres of trails that begin after our driveway. The land is rolling and flat with good walking trails. Great hiking, cross country skiing or biking trails. Bushwood!

3 sites · Tents55 acres · Godfrey, ON
This area was once the bottom of a glacial lake as can be evidenced by the abundance of smooth round rocks. You will see many of the rocks have been piled up or made into walls to once make way for cattle to pasture. Now the land is slowly returning back to the forest. We work hard to be environmentally friendly and support the abundance of wildlife living in the area. Choose from three uniquely different areas for country camping on 55 acres.: Pine Solitude! : A Slice of Heaven site tucked into a stand of white pines on a peninsula, overlooking a shallow lake with three islands. Walk-in (approx. 800m) Big Sky Solitude! : Our best site for stargazing on an open peninsula, overlooking a shallow lake with three islands. Walk-in (approx. 600m) Meadow Bluff! : A sweet, secluded spot on a raised bluff overlooking a lovely, quiet meadow. The site is tucked into the edge of a white pine forest. Walk-in (approx. 400m).

The best camping near Sharbot Lake Provincial Park guide

Overview

About

An hour north of Kingston and 90 minutes southwest of Ottawa by road, Sharbot Lake Provincial Park is actually a two-lake destination. Its namesake, Sharbot Lake, is filled with trout, walleye, bass, perch, pike, and sunfish, making it a good destination for experienced canoers looking to catch their own dinner. Meanwhile, Black Lake is much smaller, more sheltered, and perfect for those new to paddling. While you won’t find trout, it has all the other species found in Sharbot Lake. Those who prefer to explore inland will find two short, moderate trails with nice views. Sharbot Lake has four campgrounds and close to 200 camping sites, including some which are rated “premium” for their water views.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for light sleepers: Ridge View Campground is the furthest from busy Highway 7 and the other campgrounds.
  • Best for swimming: The aptly named Beach Front Campground offers the easiest beach access.
  • Best for RVs: Maple Grove can accommodate large trailers and is closest to the dumping station.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can make reservations as early as five months in advance, which is a smart idea for weekend visits and premium spots. Should you miss out on your preferred dates or sites, don’t despair—campsite reservations can be changed at the four-month mark. If you’re patient, some early bookers modify their reservation and you can grab your perfect spot.
  2. If you don’t mind a bit of noise, you’ll have a lot of options among the camping sites closest to Highway 7. These spots tend to book up last.
  3. If you’re heading out for a last-minute visit, check with the campground just after noon on the day you hope to arrive. Any departing campers who choose to shorten their stay get a full refund if they cancel before noon, meaning a few spots can open up for last-minute guests.

When to go

Sharbot Lake Provincial Park is open from mid-May until mid-October. Like many provincial parks, Sharbot Lake bans alcohol on Victoria Day and for the 10 days preceding it. July and August are popular times to visit, when park staff operate a discovery drop-in program for children. Both Canada Day weekend (July 1) and the August Civic Holiday weekend (the first Monday of the month) are very busy.

Know before you go

  • A couple of campsites don’t offer on-site parking. Here, campers must park a short distance away and carry their gear in.
  • Normally, you need a license to fish at Sharbot Lake Provincial Park (and anywhere else in Ontario) but each year, the Ontario Family Fishing Program offers two license-free weekends.
  • Sharbot Lake is part of the Tackleshare Program, which loans out fishing gear at no cost.
