The best camping near Alta Lake State Park

Surround yourself with mountains on all sides within this state park. Fishing, a swim beach, and hiking trails put you close to nature. Among Washington State Parks, Alta offers a secluded retreat away from the crowds. The area continues to recover from a wildfire in 2014 that scorched many trees here.

Put your boat in the lake for fishing fun during warm summer months. Trout don't have many places to hide. That's because the lake is just 2 miles long and half a mile wide. Feel free to water ski, jet ski, and windsurf, as well.

Hike the 2 miles of trails that take you around the lake. If you're feeling adventurous, head up to the top of Old Goat Mountain, one the nearby peaks. You can probably see most of the lake from a mountaintop vantage point. Peaks rise 1,000 feet above the lake.

The prime time to visit Alta Lake State Park is between April and October, when the park is open and fully operational. Note that the park is closed from November 1st to March 30th, making winter visits impossible.
