Nestled on an 8-acre rural property, we are in the process of transforming into a permanent primitive campground. New to Hipcamp and hosting, Committed to environmental stewardship, we prioritize eco-conscious practices such as reusing, recycling, and promoting the growth of native plant species. Each visit to our campground contributes to our mission of preserving this land for future generations. Our property boasts a spacious meadow, ideal for star gazing, along with wooded campsites or meadow camping. Please note that the meadow may become muddy during spring and winter season, so exercise caution when selecting your camping area. Additionally, a communal fire pit is available for those camping. Facilities include a porta-potty with no running water, with plans for future construction of bathrooms and showers. Conveniently located just 5 minutes from Carrier Mills, Illinois, you can easily stock up on any necessities during your stay.This is a dispersed camp in the meadow and/or wooded area. Some areas are uneven and hav low spots. Be mindful when choosing a site to avoid lower laying areas. There is a communal fire pit with free wood for your use.

Great communication!

We were biking across southern Illinois with plans to stay near where Rock Hole Meadow is located. We had some mechanical issues and weren't able to make it to the site, but the communication before (like immediately before, we're not good at planning!) the trip and during was great. Disappointed we couldn't make it to the site this time, but based on the excellent (really, A+++) communication, would definitely recommend checking this out if you are in the area!

Peaceful Wooded Retreat

Ernie & Tamara really out did themselves to make us feel comfortable. Big fire pit & plenty of wood to burn, clean porta-potty, wonderfully peaceful place to camp. What more could you ask for?? Oh yeah there is more. They had a hand washing station next to the porta-potty that was very handy, they provided a book of information on the area. It included lots of information about hiking, fishing, history, and local places now to visit. We had fun walking around the property & just relaxing. Also, we hiked two of the recommended trails. It was a perfect weekend.
