Navarro Beach Campground is the best of all waterside worlds.

Fall asleep to ocean songs. Be a neighbor to swimming holes and translucent river currents. Scale large sandstone rocks and inhale the fresh bite of salt and forest. Cherish views of truly jaw dropping sunsets and partake in the joys of a small scale campground where you can adequately remove yourself from overpopulation anxiety. This beach campground sits beside a stretch of driftwood scattered sand that adjoins the mouth of the Navarro River. Navarro provides a concise 10 site spot and you stake your claim via the more classic first-come first-served approach. This means - plan to grab your spot early and don’t wait to pull in at 11pm with no back up plan. Bring layers, but expect summer heat that differs from the normal coastal camping experience and enjoy the payoff of being close to so much skin cooling, soul warming water and the sweet canopy of second growth redwood giants.

Not Sure Why this Page says Pets No Allowed. The Park Brochure says this: Pets must be under immediate physical control at all times. Dogs must be on a leash no more than six feet long and confined in a tent or vehicle at night.

Stopped by...boo. Campsites on top of one another,in a state of disrepair. Head north just past Ft. Bragg to MacKerricher S.P. Waaay nicer and peaceful setting. Hit site 2 or 6 of the walk in sites for nice seclusion and easy walk to beach or tidepools.

This campsite can be a little bustlin' as it's also the parking lot for day-use of the beach. Albion River Campground and Mendocino Campground are two options a few miles north; Albion more social and Mendocino Campground more secluded.

Your guide to camping in Navarro Beach Campground

Overview

Fishing

Navarro is popular with anglers in the late winter and spring and during the months that fishing is allowed, Steelhead fishing is fantastic! Barbless hooks are required and catch and release rules apply much of year. A valid California fishing licence with a steelhead card is necessary for anglers 16 and older. Look up current regulations and then cast your line into the sweet waters at Navarro.

Paddling

Navarro River Redwoods State Park provides the opportunity for quiet-seeking canoers and kayakers to paddle the river and ocean in relative solitude in the winter and spring months. Flatwater kayakers might also enjoy an estuary off Navarro River hwy 128. Water Trail Assessments for non-motorized boating during summer months have been underway since 2011.

Climbing

After laying in the sand at Navarro Beach, give your ocean kissed fingers some exercise with easy to moderate climbs (good chance to learn to use trad gear) on Navarro Boulder - a 20 foot high monolith of sandstone.

Swimming

If you daydream all winter about varying bodies of water in which you could build mermaid villages, then you’ll be satiated by the river and ocean options at Navarro . Enjoy the Pacific’s rushing tide or the river’s calmer stroll - either way you’ll be soaked and filled to brim with the regeneration of H2o.

Whitewater paddling

Choppier currents await you, 26 miles of them actually, suitable for rafting and kayaking upstream of Rancheria Creek. Check out some beginner and some fearsome runs at the nearby Henry Woods State Park.

Wildlife watching

Wildlife at Navarro takes shape on fin, foot and wing. If you’re not looking for the splash of steelhead as you cast a wayward line, then keep your eyes out for river oriented birds, such as the belted kingfisher. You may also find wandering black-tailed deer in a forest grove and mischief prone raccoons in your food bag if you leave it out.
