Weekend Trip to SLO Country Camp

Camping at Ken and Judi’s is always fantastic. The layout is perfect. Enough privacy if you want it, but it’s easy to say hi to your neighbor (and pet their dog) if that’s what you’re into. Having a shower and a kitchen sink is an added bonus. We love staying here and will be back I’m sure!

Weekend Trip to Heartwood Mendocino

Heartwood was exactly what the Dr ordered - relaxing, so so so comfortable (that bed 🥰 those sheets 🥰), and just pure magic. Everything was curated to ensure our stay was amazing. The bathrooms were super nice and clean. The common area had fun games (beat my husband at Uno a few times 😌), the outdoor kitchen was super cute and looked easy to use (we didn’t get to use it since it was our 1st time in Mendocino and we opted to try all the local restaurants) and they had refrigerators you could place your perishable items in, which I thought was super thoughtful. The location is about a 5 min drive from the little downtown area of Mendocino and 10-15 min drive to the famous landmarks. It may not have had the ocean view but being surrounded by beautiful trees and a clearing where you can lay your blanket and chill by the fire, reading a book or just enjoying nature, more than made up for it. We loved it so much we’re already talking to our family about taking them here. Thank you Heartwood for a wonderful stay ❤️

Amazing place! Our kids call it camp wonderful and did not want to leave. All facilities are clean and cabin was perfect for our family of four. The setting is amazing and kid friendly. Roasted s'mores, walked the gnome trail(just ask), and watched the slugs. We will be back again.

Weekend Trip to SLO Country Camp

We loved camping at Ken and Judi’s! Beautiful and well-planned sites with greenery and lights. Nice fire pits and camp kitchen facilities. Gorgeous views all around and an amazing sunset. Close to towns and many activities. We hiked at Johnson Ranch just down the road, a wonderful dog friendly trail, before heading to the beach. Highly recommend Ken and Judi’s and will return next time we are in the area!

1 night at SLO Country Camp

Ken and Judi’s place was a perfect stay for a quick overnight for me and my friends. The location is beautiful and quiet. The sites are very clean and with all the amenities you could need. Firewood, sink, toilet, shower, etc. The sites are close to the main house but still private. There is a beautiful orchard full of different stone fruits and apples nearby and cats roaming around. Ken came out to make sure we settled in nicely and he was very kind, generous and knowledgeable. We had a lovely time.

1 night at SLO Country Camp

We booked both sites for a night. They are right next to each other so it was perfect for our group. Clean, quiet and convenient. Ken was a great host!

2 nights at Blackberry Farm

Awesome site. Great location, cute farm animals, fresh eggs(for purchase), hot water for washing dishes, showers. Flush toilets. Great outdoor kitchen.

2 nights at Heartwood Mendocino

Very clean and 5 star experience !! we enjoyed cooking a family meal and spending time together!! we will surely go back for our next camping trip !!

1 night at Splitrock Farm and Retreat

Everything exceeded expectations. There is so much to say. So many amazing areas and animals and views. The Joshua-Tree-like-rocks mixed in with the greenery is stunning. I couldn't stop taking pictures. We stayed at the "Spring" and had .5 acres+ all to ourselves with shade, all the animals, and a little tree platform where my kid read during the sunset. Showers and toilet were great, staff was helpful (open 3-7pm) and we'll be back a lot - trying new sites and areas each time. Absolutely love this place

1 night at Jug Handle Creek Farm

Great location for mountain biking - close to many trailheads in the Jackson Demonstration Forest. Awesome campsites and new, clean bathrooms. I would definitely stay again.

1 night at Whiskey Hill Barn and Camp

Dawn and her son were excellent hosts. Communicated well and responded quickly when we had questions. This was an excellent spot to stay, We had tents and stayed at the Oak Grove which is next to the barn. There is a firepit and plenty of chairs. There is one outlet to charge your electronics if you have them. Ping pong was fun and there is corn hole too. The shower is an on-demand and worked well (there were six of us). If you have the option of having the barn door open then that is a huge plus.

Great space, easy to acces and excellent communication. Enjoyed the outdoor shower too!!

2 nights at Camp Arroyo Grande

We stayed a couple of times and had the opportunity to experience silence and tranquility as well as noise and lack of privacy, that famous Russian roulette of campgrounds. You don't have much privacy on your site because of course it is an ‘Open Space’, but in addition to that people walk through your space, around your tent and car, and it is also located in the middle of the land so it is a path where cars pass by; one Saturday we were woken up at 6:50am by 6 caravan buses listening to Regatton very loudly; we don't mind the noise but we think there is a certain limit. Overall, it is ideal staying for a few days, getting to know the five cities and then continuing on your journey. The great location, landscape and nice trail around the Camp make it worth it to spend the night.

GREAT energy at Splitrock! Highly recommend! The animals are precious and playful and move around throughout the day. The dogs loved me and looked into my soul! We have thoroughly enjoyed our walks and spelunking around, and the cool shade in the Oak Grove. Many amenities there on-site, and town is only about 10 minutes away. Always woke up refreshed and inspired. All residents and owner were kind, considerate, friendly, and helpful.

2 nights at Splitrock Farm and Retreat

Could not have asked for a better stay!! We came out to celebrate my dog’s 10th birthday and had the most beautiful/memorable time. Camping spots were nice, bathrooms clean and workers very friendly. Favorite part was definitely interacting with the farm animals and letting my dog walk around the beautiful land. Can’t wait to book my next visit!

Private sunny forest near the coast

Learn more about this land: The site is in a forested area with short pine and manzanita trees, so its nice and sunny, just out of the daily fog zone that blankets the coast, but only 3 miles from the coast. The neighborhood is super quiet and you can walk right from here to the Pygmy State Park trail system or just on the gravel neighborhood road. There is a main tent site and another tent site and places for 2 cars or more or a small travel trailer or van (20' length ok). There's a place for at least 2-3 tents and there is a table with 3 chairs provided. Also a metal box to keep your food away from bears that might come by (haven't had that happen yet). No campfires please but propane/gas cook stoves are fine. 50 gallons of potable water is provided from a tank. Please conserve water. Keep all food in your vehicle as there are bears and forest critters around. Outhouse with new, clean composting toilet, environmentally friendly! There has been an ornery squirrel that keeps ripping up the toilet paper so please bring your own. Use this lat/long as Google Maps doesn't like my address- 39.2581451131371, -123.723920996094. Brief directions- coming from the coast on Little River Airport Rd, turn right on "Posted Rd. 18/Sundew Lane" sign, stay right at the fork, first driveway on the right (funky oval painted sign as pictured).

Huckleberry Haven

Huckleberry Haven currently features TWO sites: FIRST is the Tent camp deck in the forest. Pitch your tent on a dry and flat deck. Surrounded by huckleberries (in season July-Nov), fir and redwood trees and adjacent to Salt Point State Park and Kruse Rhododendron State Preserve. Deck site has basic amenities: potable well water, fire ring (check to ensure it's campfire season, and bring firewood!), picnic table, and an outhouse. SECOND is the RV camping parking spot. (no tents, please - ground isn't suitable) This site is near the top of our grassy meadow, with glorious forest views, on dry gravel, and features a picnic table & outhouse. It does not have a campfire facility, nor water. You're welcome to bring your own propane fire & cooking source, but NO open wood fires due to grassy fire hazards. Property is situated at 800' above sea level (usually above the fog) across the road from the Stump Beach trailhead in Salt Point State Park - which, from our driveway, is a 2 mile hike or bike ride down to the beach. Enjoy quiet solitude of one of the most private and quiet places on the Sonoma Coast. Avoid the crowds of Salt Point, with all the basic amenities you expect. Birdwatch, play frisbee golf, hunt for mushrooms, basecamp your hikes, runs or mountain bike rides in Salt Point, or use Huckleberry Haven as the central spot to innumerable road bike rides on empty roads. The choice is yours! Special note: Huckleberry Haven is on the edge of some great wilderness! We have all sorts of wildlife sauntering by, and certainly have for decades. We recommend taking precautions to avoid interacting with curious/hungry wildlife - Don't sleep with your food in the tent, and keep camp tidy! We know there to be black bears, mountain lions, bobcats, foxes, racoons, skunks and so forth. Mountain Lions tend to avoid us, but you'll want to check on best practices to avoid bear interactions. No pets allowed; service animals are permitted. The campsite area is NOT accessible by vehicle. Guests must park in the guest parking lot and hike to the Dome campsite area. We will provide wheelbarrows to help transport your personal items to the campsite area (about 10 minutes, mostly-flat hike). Guests are NOT permitted to sleep in cars/vans/campers in the parking lot. Tents and gear are not included; please bring and pitch your own tents. Bring your own food (there is a cooler and dry food storage container) or plan to enjoy dining in Muir Beach. We do not have showering facilities or flush toilets. Porta-potties or composting toilets are available around the property. Soap is provided for hand washing. Water in all Slide Ranch taps is potable for refilling water bottles/jugs. There is no running water at the Dome but there will be containers of water out there for use in hand washing, dish washing, and limited for drinking. Slide Ranch does not have any concessions on site. Please plan to bring any snacks or picnic items you’d like to enjoy while enjoying the ranch. Per GGNRA regulations, camp fires and open flames of any kind are not allowed out at the campsite meadow or inside the Geodesic Dome as there is no running water. Portable camp stoves and BBQs are strictly prohibited. Slide Ranch is located on the Marin coast, on land that has a rich history in connecting people to food. The Miwok once fished and foraged for food at this site, and in the late 19th century Portuguese dairy farmers purchased the land and produced milk and butter for residents of San Francisco. In 1969, 134 acres of this fertile coastline were rescued from commercial development and purchased by the Nature Conservancy. The Slide Ranch nonprofit organization was established in 1970, becoming one of the first Park Partners in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

We are a place for people experimenting with the new old ways to live with low impact and conservation of our precious resources. We offer affordable accommodations, organic gardening, and education on plants and living simply. We welcome your interest in veganic garden and diet, orchards, and forest trails. Our organic vegetables and fruit may be available if you wish to bring some of our farm to your table. Our garden is reduced this time of year but we may still have something to share. We can offer you a quiet and peaceful place without social pressures if you wish to "decompress" from city life, jobs or any stressful times. Or come to the communal fire near the bathhouse for sharing some time with family and the few other campers that may be there. Bringing your own wood is welcome. The coastal bike and hike trails are many. From South of Ft Bragg to the Sand Dunes near Ward Ave. you can travel over 7 miles one way and go down to quiet little beach coves along the way. Meadow Farm is a nonprofit 501c3 with goals of coastal food security, disaster preparation and sheltering, carbon sequestering and forest restoration. We offer native plant tours on or off site with advance notice. We like our dog companions! Two McNab collies, Moxie and Shama live here and may bark at first...still very friendly and social with people and other dogs.. There are several dog friendly off-leash areas such as, Noyo North Harbor Beach, Seaside Beach and dog parks in both Ft Bragg and Mendocino. Our farm is dog friendly tho we wish pets to be kept close, must be neutered and friendly to other dogs and people. Please be sure to bury or bag the waste. Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps. Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online. Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning. Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time. If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away.. When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay. We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away. From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them. Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock Farm Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. Timber Cove Campground

Located right off coastal US highway 1, Timber Cove campground sits right at the edge of breathtaking, oceanside cliffs. We are situated on roughly two acres of land, with multiple campsites for tent/car camping or RV’s. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire pit and water. Electricity is available to use for an extra fee. We have separate men’s and women’s flush bathrooms, with coin-operated hot showers. We are located 30 minutes north of the town of Jenner, with Gualala 30 minutes to the north. Gualala has grocery stores, a post office, and some shops. Fort Ross Store is located one mile down the road, just before Timber Cove, and sells basic food necessities, drinks, sandwiches, ice and gas. Internet cell service can be spotty in our area, depending on your provider, so bring your own Starlink services if you have them. We also have access to the beach below, and offer beach camping as well. Take note that the road down to the beach is steep with uneven terrain. The weather can vary quickly here, so be sure to bring multiple layers of clothing and camp gear for various types of weather, and headlamps are useful for getting around the property at night! We hope you’ll come visit our little slice of heaven on the ocean cliffs, gaze at the stars, marvel at the sunsets, watch the harbor seals dozing on their rocks and the many bird species that inhabit our property. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Bailes Farm

One of the last remaining undeveloped parts of Southern California, De Luz Heights is located adjacent to the Cleveland National Forest, and the Santa Margarita River (just a few miles from the campsite). On my 60 acres, there are no major roads going through or next to the property. My land is 13 miles from the Pacific ocean and enjoys a relatively mild yearly climate. Giant boulders provide topographical relief and offer platforms from which to enjoy the view of the nearby Santa Margarita Mountains. The valley views are filled with olive and avocado groves, vineyards, and horse ranches. The Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base is nearby, so you might hear some artillery in the distance on some occasions. The campsite embraces all the comforts of "glamping": a hot shower, composting toilet, beds with sheets provided, gas grill with a stovetop, pots and pans, kitchenware, a sink, picnic table, shaded deck, sofa, lounge chairs, and propane fire pit. The basics are provided: toilet paper, paper towels, purified drinking water, towels, sheets, cooking oil, etc. Campers need to bring their own blankets. I've created a network of hiking trails for especially fit hikers looking for a more rigorous hike than the nearby Santa Margarita River Trail. My trails lead through creek beds, over boulders, through rocky crags, with views of the Pacific ocean on a clear day. Hikers on my trails need to wear proper hiking boots with good traction. Sections of my trails will require bouldering with hands and feet. Expect to have fatigued quadriceps, some scrapes, and a sweaty hat brim. The campsite is accessible with a two-wheel drive vehicle; I drive a Kia Forte out there regularly. However, some tips when driving a two-wheel drive car: when going uphill on a dirt road, try to keep some momentum of about 12-15 MPH. If you stop and try to start again, your tires will spin out. If that happens, just reverse down the hill, and try it again with more momentum.

Pitch your tent in a meadow shared by: Campsite 1 - left side of the meadow, closest to the common area and hot tub. Campsite 2 - middle of the meadow, closest to our fenced apiary and bee garden. Campsite 3 - right side of the meadow, near the orchard. (sites 1 and 3 are next to each other) Campsite 4 - front of the pasture, closest to the parking area (best for car/van campers wanting space to lounge near their parked vehicle.) Multiple sites may be booked for group camping. Sites 1 and 3 are next to each other under the Cypress Trees. Add site 2 if you would like the entire back half of the campground. Add site 4 if you'd like to have a maximum number of 16 total campers and 2 tents/per site. The common area has an outdoor shower, hot tub, covered bbq/cook area, tented (weather-protected) hangout space, and a place to stash your surfboard. The pizza oven is not available for campground use. Redwood Grove hangout areas have seating and tree swings. Please pack out your trash. We offer a recycling bin for glass bottles, cans, and clean paper. Parking is 100 yds or less from the campsites. We have a large wheelbarrow to help you cart your camping gear across the pasture to your campsite. No driving onto or parking in the meadow. Due to the narrow driveway and parking area (lack of turnaround), the site cannot accommodate RVs, trailers, or oversize vehicles beyond 16ft in length, 7ft in width, or 10 ft in height. 1 car per campsite, please. 15-minute walk to the beach and downtown.
