The Milky Way Cabin

Indulge in the charm of a custom-built tiny house nestled against a grove of Aspens. This 100% solar-powered and self-sustaining cabin is situated on 2 acres, accessible via a scenic 13-mile drive on dirt roads off Hwy 24. Since we are 100% OFF GRID we do not have a well or septic system. Bring 4-5 (5) gallon jugs of water and dump them in the tank under the sink. It's very easy and is plenty water when used conservatively. This way you will have running water. The shower itself uses 1.75 gallons per minute. If you decide to use the shower, make it quick! There is a water filling station next to the Fire Station in Florissant. You can fill up your jugs of water there. Bring a hose. One dollar in quarters will get you 20 gallons. IMPORTANT: Do not allow the water level to fall below 1/2 tank. You can see the water level through the tank. We've already had to replace the water pump because someone ran the tank out of water. If this happens, it's an expensive repair. The tank holds 48 gallons. There is a composting toilet. If you are not willing to dump a bucket of your own urine under a tree when you leave, this place is not for you. It will fill up and overflow onto the bathroom floor if you are there for more than 1-2 days. Keep an eye on it and empty as necessary. Don't leave your waste for the next guest to deal with. Gross! There are two lofts. One has a queen bed and the other has two twin mattresses made of foam that fold in to chairs. Bring sleeping bags if you plan on sleeping in the loft! The kitchen table is flat against the wall and folds down when needed. Turn and pull out the lever on top release the table. This place is brand new and we are still working things out. There is a stool under the stairs and the box in the corner was designed to be used as a seat/ottoman. Lay out a blanket on the brand new Huge deck and bring binoculars or use our telescope (available in the summer only and located in the shed) and stargaze! Lots of things to do including hiking, paddle boarding, fishing in the summer at 11 Mile Reservoir. Go snow shoeing, rent a Polaris in Woodland Park, and snow mobiling in Buena Vista. Eleven Mile Reservoir is just a few minutes away by car. Detailed arrival and departure instructions are on our website. You will receive a guest password upon booking on how to use the unique systems in the cabin. You must agree to read it thoroughly before your arrival. This is our family cabin, not an Airbnb. You will be required to sign a a contract with a credit card for a deposit before your arrival. If you do not empty the urine bucket upon departure you will be charged a $150 cleaning fee. With this site being around 3000 feet from the reservoir you will be able to enjoy all the amazing views and amenities the reservoir has to offer without the crowded camp grounds. You will need a park pass to access the reservoir but not to camp on the land. A 1/4 mile down the road is access to nation forest for going off road or get a parks pass and fish at one of the many amazing fisheries in the area like Eleven mile, Spinney and Eleven mile canyon. The south shore boat ramp is less than 4 miles away. This area does get windy so be careful setting up awnings and pop up tents or anything the wind likes to blow away. The site has a slight pitch but leveling out your camper should be relatively easy. No trees on the land to block your 360 degree mountain views.

Mountain Meadows

Our 160 acre property is surrounded on all four sides by miles of National Forest. We recently built our cabin/house adjacent to Trout creek which runs through the property. This property was originally homesteaded in the 1800’s. An original two story cabin built in the 1890s still stands on the property. The logs in that cabin are said to have come from “The Meeker Massacre” (one of the last Indian uprisings in the west). We still hay the 60 acre meadow that has fed cows for many years on the property. Campers can expect to see all kinds of wildlife, from large moose to small chipmunks on the property. Hiking around the meadow is a favorite activity of campers, or just relaxing in a rocking chair looking at the beautiful views.

Picturesque 20 acres with views in nearly all directions of multiple mountains and ranges. Most areas of property have stunning views of nothing but mountains and trees as far as the eye can see. Very quiet area in Bear Trap Ranch. Relatively level spot for camping and/or parking an RV available. No hookups available - completely off-grid. Would also recommend only a raised RV and nothing beyond 30 feet long - path from road up to the level area is not paved. We drive it with an RV that is slightly raised going slowly. Our 2021 EPro 20BHS (about 23 feet long) with the off road package after removing our WDH works well. For camping, bring your own bags for portable toilet seat that is provided. Kitchen size 13 gallon bags work - preferably composting bags to then place in a regular bag to take with you. You must take all garbage with you including excrement bags upon completion of your trip. Be bear aware - it is called "Bear Trap Ranch." Bring bear spray, do no leave any food or wrappers anywhere unsealed including in open vehicles. While we have never seen a bear on our property, it's possible that will change at any time. We have heard a coyote pack in the night. Again, we have not seen them on our property, but be aware if you bring pets not to allow them to wander. There is almost always a fire ban. Do not plan on a camp fire. Gas fire pits and gas grills are ok - just please be careful! Explore nearby fishing/hiking/rock climbing at Eleven Mile Canyon, swimming at Guffey Gorge/Paradise Cove, hiking/exploring Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, and much more hiking/ATVing/and exploring nearby. Near Cripple Creek, Canon City, Guffey. Beautiful 1.5 hour drive from Colorado Springs up the pass through Woodland Park, Divide, Florissant, and through Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. Verizon signal - at the top of the "driveway" once you are on the property there is intermittently a signal enough to get an email, phone call, or text. There is not typically a signal otherwise. I would not expect to have any other carrier signal on the property. Off-grid experience for true relaxation.

"We struck gold finding this magical place. The yurt was so cozy, comfy, and full of tons of extras that exceeded our expectations.
