The owner is very responsive and helpful. The site itself is soooo quiet and peaceful it’s how camping should be. No noise pollution whatsoever and you may even see a deer or turkey. Very secluded the entrance is at the two tall poles on the road and then your basically there.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Valley Nature Center

Great place. Heavier than you may think to lug everything in so be prepared. Be careful about signage. We walked half a mile up hill in freezing rain for the Joe and Doe cabin but it was the wrong way.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Valley Nature Center

Two Dog was snug for our one cold windy night stay. We wondered what supplies would be there so in case it's helpful for others, noting that some things were clearly just leftovers, so depends on who precedes you: plenty of dry wood for the stove inside (reload the supply from the nearby woodshed before you leave), an old-school can-opener, a roll of TP, foam mats for the sleeping loft, a broom, a box of matches, a few sheets of newspaper, a fire extinguisher, a water kettle, a few DIY pegs and nails for hanging gear/lights, many decks of cards, a cribbage board, guestbook, a low table, two chairs, and a bench on the front porch. Outside is a fire pit, picnic table, and pit toilet. The stove was easy enough to use and did a good job of warming the space, but there's plenty of opportunity for cold air to come through the cabin. We brought water from home and glad we did - looked like the year-round hand pump at the Barn was out of order when we passed. Recommend bringing fire starting supplies, either your own tinder or a small axe bc wood provided is just big logs. If you're there during warmer weather, there are good trees for hammocks.

This place is precious, love the space! Woodstove and 0 degree sleeping bag kept me super cozy. Lots of Barred owls in the woods at night. As campers here, we need to be mindful and not leave debris like orange peels and food scraps; please respect this land that HVNC is sharing with us and leave no trace ❤

We had an absolutely amazing experience at John’s property, even in the freezing winter! The land itself was gorgeous, offering a peaceful and scenic escape despite the cold. What truly stood out was John’s incredible attentiveness—he went above and beyond to ensure our group was comfortable and well taken care of. Before our arrival, he plowed the snow for us and even personally escorted us to the campsite, which we really appreciated given the extreme temperatures. The porta potty was clean and well-maintained, making our stay even more convenient. While water wasn’t available due to the freezing conditions (understandably so), everything else was well-prepared, and we had a fantastic time. We’d love to revisit when the weather is warmer and fully enjoy everything this beautiful property has to offer. Highly recommend this campsite and John as a host!

I booked this hipcamp SUPER last minute, due to some rearrangements that couldn't be worked through with our first planned hipcamp. John was so accommodating and prompt with checking that the heat in the tiny house was working before he approved the booking in case it wasn't and we couldn't stay. well it was working, and we found the little gas powered fireplace to be so soothing and cozy. I have to give John kudos as well for taking his snowmobile and making us a path to sled with as well as bringing us sleds to borrow! my partner and i are full grown adults and we had the best time sledding down that hill. it was hard to walk back up (we are aging) but it was so worth it. we will definitely be returning!

We loved our stay at the Tiny House! The cabin itself is beautiful and very private, the listing was accurate, and the HipCamper Guide left for us gave us lots of things to do in the area. Tucker is responsive and super helpful! We came in the dead of winter, so the electricity wasn’t working, but lots of lanterns were provided. And after the woodstove heated up properly, the place was warm and comfortable despite the freezing temps! We had brought a portable heater just incase but only used it when waiting for the woodstove to heat the place up. The outhouse is clean and stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. Lots of firewood was provided. Overall a really wonderful stay and we cannot wait to come back in the summer!

The land is beautiful and has so much to offer in any season. The space is clean and well cared-for. The loft is spacious and firewood provided. We packed in our own water but one could easily filter/ treat if the water isn't frozen! We didn't see a single soul the whole time, and enjoyed equally our relaxing by the fire and our walkabouts.

In addition to making a home here, we dedicating the area as a sanctuary for the quiet enjoyment of nature, eco-spiritual practices and healing. Guests may elect to experience a daily hour-long "Ecospiritual Immersion" walk as part of their stay. These will be led by Ecospiritual Guide and "Wild Mind, Wild Heart" author, Peter Wohl. Our tentsite, while only a 5 minute walk from the road, has been sited to offer as much solitude as possible, with minimal disruption to the surroundings. In spite of being nestled in the woods, no trees were cut to prepare this relatively accessible site. We believe that it still offers a very tangible sense of wildness and solitude. Our cabin is an off grid post and beam structure that we built 8 years ago. It's has a full kitchen, wood stove, and screened porch. There are jugs provided for doing dishes etc and a large (150 gallon) tank outside for refills. There are a generous supply of lanterns (both battery and inflatable solar) flashlights and string lights for lighting. This is a small two story timber frame cabin off grid and secluded deep in the woods. It has a separate outhouse as well as shower stall to use the solar shower bags in. The cabin has a king sized bed in the loft with a child size fold down bunk above it; there is also a pull out couch on the first floor. As well as a kitchen, screened in porch and fire pit. Linen, dishes and utensils are not included please bring all that you need. There is a propane 4 burner stove with oven and solar shower bags. Trash and campfire wood is included. We are very busy with kids and work, we try our best to clean and re-supply between guests but it is not always possible, please let us know if something needs attention!

Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. Insulated Tiny Cabin

The cabin has a full size bed (bring your own pillows and bedding) with some floor space for a small cot or sleeping pad. The space allows for two adults and two small children, anymore than that would be very tight. The cabin is insulated so the road traffic isn’t bad but it is noticeable at certain hours when the window is open. Dogs are allowed but they need to be leashed due to our free ranging ducks and the closeness of the road. My step Dad Bob ‘discovered’ the island in the 1970’s when he was escaping the rat race and looking to get ‘back to the land’. Over the course of three years he built the island house by floating cedar logs across the bay, using a come-along to bring the up to the land, debarked and prepped them for building and set about constructing his off-grid, solar powered home. All without power tools. Both my Mom and Bob were ardent environmentalists and peace advocates. For 20 years they lived year-round on the island and only left when their ages made it difficult to continue cutting/splitting/moving/burning wood and just the ordeal of living so remotely. Most visitors to the island agree the peaceful vibe continues and that is important to us.

Botanica Retreat is a project of the Bioregional Conservancy and Reclamation Trust (BCRT), a registered educational not for profit organization dedicated to the Integration of Light and Land, healing assisted by the kingdoms of nature. Coming into a sense of harmony with one Self and others. De-stressing and relaxation are the first steps to healing any dis-ease. You are invited to play, stroll and relax in the meadows and northern forest lands of this 90 acre property. Enjoy a walk along the pond, the brook or the Medicine Wheel. The land offers a food forest of fruit, nut and sugar trees with gardens of wild edibles and medicinal plants. Botanica offers tent sites, yurts/yomes and RV spots (without hook up's). Indoor and outdoor bathroom facilities and showers are available. We host a communal camp fire if desired, and a hot drink at breakfast. We are a project in progress, turning a run-down potato farm to an aspiring center for education and planetary healing. Currently, we are recovering the farm house and adjacent structures with the generous assistance of a group of volunteers and we are endeavoring to bring the soil on the land back to life by making the land accessible to a nearby regenerative farmer. Your Own Private Island

Want a unique vacation? Everyone loves the idea of their own island. Peaceful, quiet and away from it all. In recent years we even have a nesting bald eagle pair! Our cottage is rustic, no running water and no electricity and only accessible via boat! We have a propane stove, refrigerator, and lanterns. Guests must bring water and small propane canisters for their stay. Guests are required to clean before departure. Bathroom is within the cottage and has an odor free composting toilet. For showering needs we have a camp style solar shower. Bedroom has a full-size bed. Crow's nest has a small futon that opens for an additional bed for one. The $375 fee is the cost of the boat captain to make one trip to deliver you and your gear to the island and one to take you back. If you will be coming in your own boat or kayak, please let us know and we can refund that fee if we aren't hiring the captain. Depending on the captain's schedule often arrival is the last trip of day and departure is 8 am. Additional trips can be arranged with our captains as well as sightseeing tours. Please note the captain charges $25 to transport a pet. We have a dock if you would be interested in bringing your own boat. Boat rentals also available nearby. Arrival and departure times are dependent on the captain's availability. See Bald eagles and seals. You can fish for striped bass right off the island. Water views from every window. The upper floor of the cottage is the Crow's nest (a tiny space accessible from a ladder below,) in the treetops with great sunset views. Bring your kayaks! Crow Island was mentioned in the book "Rivers of Memory" by John Gibson To quote Rachel Field, “If once you have slept on an island. You’ll never quite be the same.”

It is a one-hour drive to Acadia National Park! ECO-CABIN. The two-room, insulated, clean and cozy cabin has an adorable front porch with two fold-out chairs and a small table. There are solar string lights that light up automatically at night. Inside you will find all new furnishings. The main room has a dining table and two chairs, a small library of local authors, games for indoor entertainment, and solar lanterns and battery-powered candles for when it's dark. The back bedroom has a new, super-comfy queen bed, two drawers, and plenty of hooks. The bed has a mattress cover and clean, fitted sheet. BRING YOUR OWN SLEEPING BAGS AND PILLOWS. PATIO & OUTDOOR KITCHEN - Adjacent to the cabin is a lovely cedar patio with a fully-stocked outdoor kitchen, patio table and chairs with an umbrella for shade, and outdoor games (corn hole and bocce). BRING YOUR OWN FIREWOOD OR EASILY GATHER DOWNED WOOD ON THE LAND NO RUNNING WATER. We provide non-potable water for hand- and dishwashing from the rain barrel. BRING YOUR OWN POTABLE (DRINKING) WATER. NO ELECTRICITY. This is a truly an off-grid cabin so no air conditioning or electrical outlets. There is a nice cross, ocean breeze in the cabin. Please note: No electricity, no plumbing, no wi-fi. Campers are required to bring their own drinking water, towels and bedding (pillows and sleeping bags). We will supply you with one 5 gallon solar shower bag of non-potable water, toilet paper, and a limited amount of battery operated or solar powered light fixtures.
