Great place for solo traveling. You're around others, with nice flush toilets and good showers (essential after a hot desert day). Retief will make sure you have everything you need! Very welcoming and he's putting a lot of work into caring for the property on behalf of the humans, plants, and animals who share it. Perfect location for early morning hikes in Big Bend and afternoon/evenings in Terlingua. The birds love this place and so will you!

A group of us camped there for one night and we had the best of time. Rand is a gracious host providing clear instructions and directions. His property is beautiful and tranquil where you can hike and do water activities in the pond. We were there the day after Pink Full Moon and the sky was clear that was perfect for Star and moon gazing. We had two ladies who bought a new tent for this outing and they said they enjoyed every minute of it and look forward for another outing at the property.

Fantastic camping spot! We booked out both of the river spots so that we had more room and privacy. It was perfect! The walk up to the bath house wasn’t bad at all. Facilities were nice and clean and cared for. We didn’t use the WiFi. The sink and electric were very conveniently located. There was an issue with the outlets, but the hosts were super quick to respond and got us set up with alternate electricity sites in the meantime. Incredibly accommodating. Being next to the water was perfect! The dogs loved it. Plenty of flat spots for tents and parking. Beautiful site. I’ve camped quite a bit within about a 3 hour radius of Austin, and this has been the best! Loved it

4 nights at Willow Creek Camping Company

We enjoyed our stay at Willow Creek which is very convenient to the west entrance of Big Bend. Reteif and Jay were welcoming and promptly responsive to our calls and questions. The small campground is quiet, layed-out well with clean restrooms and great shower rooms. There is also a convenient kitchen sink area for doing dishes. They are cultivating a nice bird habitat to view from the community porch. You can’t beat the views of sunrise, sunset and dark night skies. We will definitely stay here if we trek this way again.

My pups and I couldn’t have been happier with our stay! The experience exceeded my expectations. We loved how much thought and consideration the hosts put into everything. The description was accurate and informative and the host was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the private river access. It was peaceful and rejuvenating; we will definitely stay here again! My dogs didn’t want to leave. We saw a few snakes, carp, raccoon and deer by the river but bugs were not an issue. Cell service (T-Mobile) was a little spotty at the river, not bad though. The outdoor shower was nice to be able to clean up after playing in the river with my dogs. Definitely check out the little farm stand while you’re there! There were fresh eggs and jellies for sale when we were there.

Grounds very well maintained. The restrooms were super clean and the showers were amazing with high shower heads (if you’re over 6ft you’ll understand this). Also a kitchen sink with great water pressure that made it super easy to do dishes. Location was perfect. Just a bit off the main road but did not feel like it at all and felt very safe the whole time. Around a mile to the nearest gas station for ice, gas etc and around 4.something miles to Big Bend. After seeing some of the other campgrounds when we were exploring I’d definitely recommend this one for good location, maintenance of grounds, cleanliness, safety and if you don’t want to be around that many people (only 10 sites). We truly felt so spoiled staying at Willow Creek!

Had a great weekend! Hot showers, clean porta potty, and plenty of firewood for us to use! Owner was super helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed the fresh eggs they sold that we cooked for breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

Showers have a large shower head & the water was nice & hot (& plenty of it!). Host was friendly as always! Great value for the money! Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.

We have three ground tent sites and two 14 by 14 deck sites if you want to be up off the ground. Each site has a fire ring and electricity. Nearby is Bryan-College Station home of Texas A&M University To the west on Hwy 105 is Washington on the Brazos State Park. This is the location where delegates gathered to hastily draw up a declaration of independence before joining the Runaway Scrape to avoid capture and execution by the advancing Mexican Army. Farther down the road is the famous Blue Bell creamery in Brenham. The tour and ice cream are well worth the trip. On the property are miles of Jeep trails excellent for off road and 4WD vehicles. Guests might prefer hiking along these trails or strike out on foot trails and game trails. Thanks to the hunters who have come for the deer and feral hogs over the years there are numerous observation structures for viewing wildlife up close, or just enjoying the solitude of the deep woods.
