Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next St. Joe State Park adventure.
Hit the trails on bike, horseback, or ATV in this adventurous Missouri park.
While many state parks offer peaceful retreats, this one comes with the roar of engines. As one of only two Missouri state parks that allow off-road vehicles, St. Joe is a popular location for this energetic activity. ORVers, equestrians, mountain bikers, hikers, and paddlers will all find trails to meet their varied needs and desires, with a backdrop of waters and wooded hills. Four lakes extend the fun to the water, offering fishing, boating, and swimming. Venture to nearby Elephant Rocks and Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Parks to explore the fascinating geological features found in this region of southeastern Missouri.
This park has recreational options year round. The ORV area is even accessible to snowmobiles after heavier snows. Campers need to prepare for freezing temperatures in winter months. During the summer, the park is at its busiest, with full campgrounds and lots of traffic. The swim beaches are also popular. During the spring and fall, activities may settle down, though weekends are busier. The weather is pleasant, with the best scenery in October.
