Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Hat Rock State Park adventure.
This riverside oasis is a scenic spot for land- and water-based activities.
Named after its landmark hat-shaped rock, Hat Rock State Park is a lush oasis along the Columbia River Gorge. There are plenty of opportunities to get on the water, with boat ramp access to both Lake Wallula and the Columbia River. Set sail along the river, explore the lake in a kayak or Jet Ski, or enjoy fishing by the lakeside. Multi-use trails provide options for walkers, cyclists, and horseback riders, while the 10-mile Umatilla County Lewis and Clark Commemorative Trail runs east from Hat Rock. There’s no camping in the park itself, but campers can stay just outside the park boundaries.
Outdoor activities are possible year-round in Hat Rock State Park, but the main season is from April through October. July and August are busiest, so consider booking your picnic spot in advance. Out of season, it’s easy to escape the crowds, and winter is also the best time to spot eagles and waterfowl around the lake.
