Pick your own veggies in the community garden and meet the Guinea fowl! Enjoy the windernes and learn about the local ecosystem here on the middle pennensula. Mid-summer is what I call frog season, Tree frogs are abundant and provide a wonderful soundtrack. There are free to use bicycles, an axe throwing board, and cornhole boards available. 4 miles from shopping and dining in Mathews Virginia, 15 miles to Gwynn Island. Gwynn's Island is an island located in the Chesapeake Bay off of Virginia's Middle Peninsula. Sharp's Island

1 site · Tent1 acre · Richmond, VA
Sharp's Island is so named because the Sharp family of Richmond owned it as far back as the 1850s. The old brick foundation you see in the pictures is all that remains of a house that was built on the island in 1895 and stood for 75 years! We consider ourselves stewards of an amazing historic, ecological, geologic, and recreational asset, and we had love to have you add your own story to this island's long history! NOTE: The parking situation has changed due to construction! The parking information in the pictures is not correct (but Hipcamp won't let me delete them). Contact Andy at 804-212-6639 for parking instructions. You have to get to Sharp's Island on your own, but we can rent you a canoe or kayak (it's super easy). Learn more about this land: One-of-a-kind really only begins to describe 1-acre Sharp's Island! For starters, this is the only legal camping option in the city of Richmond. You read that correctly. This is your own private island, and it's right in the heart of downtown RVA! The Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain right here at Sharp's Island. That makes for amazing fishing, especially during the spring shad and striper runs.  Some other incredible things about camping at Sharp's Island: You can motor up to it from Ancarrow's Landing, canoe over from the trail just below Mayo Bridge, or make this the destination for your downriver raft/kayak trip; at summer river levels there are literally dozens of great swimming holes along the banks (we can sell you tubes for lounging); choose your own campsite: sandy beach or forested interior; Fire pit ready and waiting for you. And lots more!

A small space heater has been provided that works well to keep the bus warm in winter. Also has a wood burning stove, with firestarters and wood for the stove included. Has 2 USB outlets and a standard wall outlet. Wifi is available with high downloading speeds. *Pets* All pets are welcome! Please keep in mind that there are two dogs on the property contained to the yard by an electric invisible fence. The dogs are not able to access the campsite. We ask that you keep your pup on a leash unless it is well trained and can stay in the campsite area and away from our pets. *Extra Guests* We allow a maximum of 4 guests to stay inside the bus. For a fee, you can have extra guests stay with you in a tent outside. Please let us know before booking if you will be bringing extra guests. ——— Guest access You will need to drive on grass and through the backyard to access the school bus. There is parking right next to the campsite. We will be respectful of your space and privacy, but with that being said we like to grill out and hang out on the back deck pretty often so feel free to come over and chat. ——— Other things to note The interior height of the bus is only 6 feet so please note that it could be a bit cramped for taller individuals. We will be on the property in case you have questions.

The best camping near Historic Jamestowne guide

Overview

About

When three tiny ships landed in Jamestown in 1607, they started the American colonies. This historic park sits on the actual place where the colonists landed and created the first permanent and successful settlement in America.

Take a tour of the restored Jamestown Church, a brownish-gray stone edifice that offered a place of worship for the colonists. Walk among wooden structures that served as houses for the people when they arrived. Just don't huff and puff, because you may blow the houses down. The houses look as if they're made of matchsticks.

Park Rangers and archaeologists can take you on guided tours of the site. Make sure to watch for special events and look for people in period costume that make Jamestown come alive. You might hear that the colonists landed in a swampy area filled with mosquitoes, which was true. They didn't have mosquito spray back then.

A museum showcases 2 million artifacts dug up at Jamestown. This site is still a working archaeological site, and scientists add new pieces to the museum on a regular basis.

At the pier, you get to board reconstructions of the three ships that brought people to this new land. Walk on the deck of the Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery to see what it was like sailing from England to Virginia over a three-month span. You will be thankful for your landlocked home after seeing what it took to make the journey across the Atlantic.

In New Towne, there are ruins of mansions that cropped up after the colony became more stable. These ruins represent some of the oldest homes in America, though they no longer stand. The Dale House Cafe, sitting right at the water's edge, gives you a picturesque view and a hearty lunch break.
