just a short drive from town through a magical road where the traffic comes from wild turkeys, the light comes from the cosmos, the sound comes from the chirp of the birds and the song of the salamander. in this redwood forest is a sacred spot with good vibes and no power lines. thoughtfully curated structures made from fallen trees. proper amenities done right, quietly a model for living graciously on earth like we’ve been here before and might want to visit again.
Of course this doesn’t happen by accident, so of course the people that make it happen are also amazing. While there are dozens of acres of privacy if you want them, I was lucky enough to coincidentally check out on a day they also hosted a sweat - lodge ceremony of sorts. so we stayed longer and while it was something new to me, i timidly opened up to it when they invited me, while my shy daughter so naturally played with new friends and our dogs gave each other the smell test. It was definitely something I’d do again and Becca’s purple cornmeal porridge made from her freshly harvested heirloom corn - downright delicious, wholesome and after one bite you know it’s not something you can just order from a menu or buy in a store.
Can’t guarantee my experience was typical but wouldn’t be surprised if it was even more epic for others.
We’ll be back.
