Learn more about this land:
Our property provides a mixture of fields, forest, pond, and creek with some views of Lake Superior and of Isle Royale. We are conveniently located between Calumet and McLain State Park as well as adjacent the Swedetown Recreation Area (our property touches Swedetown's boundary and the M203 trailhead is just down the road). Using us as a basecamp, everything the Keweenaw has to offer is easily within reach.
Important details regarding our sites:
Sites 1 - 3 are for tenting groups. Among these sites 1 and 3 will accommodate multiple tents while site 2 only has room for one. There is a short walk to access our tent sites.
Site 4 is available for multiple tents, vehicle camping, and rv's.
Evan's campsite is a delightful escape nestled in a serene location close to Lake Superior, providing easy access to the Keweenaw Peninsula's attractions. The site is well-maintained, offering a peaceful and private camping experience, with the added charm of friendly hosts and adorable cows. Visitors appreciate the cleanliness of the facilities, including a notably tidy outhouse, and the picturesque surroundings perfect for relaxation. While most reviews highlight positive experiences, a few guests noted minor inconveniences with site accessibility and distance to amenities, but these did not overshadow the overall enjoyment of their stay.
The site was beautiful and well maintained. Evan was very friendly and helpful. The latrine was very clean. Overall, we had a great experience and would recommend it to others
We loved staying on this property. Evan was an excellent host. He came to check on us after we got settled in and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The site was very peaceful, private and provided relaxing views. The campsite was well maintained as well. The location of this property is excellent as there are many areas to explore nearby. We will definitely go back here if we are in the area in the future. Absolutely recommend this spot!
There were many things we loved about our stay at Keweenaw Homestead, the beautiful, pastoral setting being the primary one. We accidentally camped in the “communal area.:” The vista from there was of lovely low woods and shrubs on the the left (with a pond just beyond our view), an expansive pasture with two unusual cows grazing peacefully in the middle adding to the homestead feel, and glimpses of Lake Superior off in the distance to the right. Another plus was the willingness of the host to accommodate to our preferences and let us stay in that spot rather than Site 1 as booked. We enjoyed walking the trails, birding, a lovely campfire on a perfect evening.
There were a few areas that need improvement. I don’t know how we could possibly have gotten my camper up to Site 1, and it wasn't close to level. Sites 2 and 3 were Tents Only, but would have required multiple trips up a hill a fair distance over grass with a hand cart. As others have mentioned, the outhouse was unreasonably far from the campsites, especially from Site 4, though it was lovely.. The signage to the campsites needs improvement, the grass lane needs to be widened, and parking/turnaround areas added to 1-3. Also, the water source was a hose by the outhouse, and drinking from hoses has been deemed unsafe. There is a huge amount of potential for incredible camping at Keweenaw Homestead, but it’s not quite there yet. I hope they keep with it.
I would recommend it with the above caveats.
