Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Doheny State Beach adventure.
Sun, sand, surf, and Beach Boys vibes—Doheny is a classic slice of California.
Sun-soaked sands and beginner-friendly waves make Doheny State Beach a firm favorite among Southern Californians. This 62-acre oceanfront playground has two day-use areas and ample space for swimming, surfing, and water sports. Don’t fancy joining the surfers? Kayaking, surf fishing, and stand-up paddleboarding are all popular alternatives, after which you can hit the beach volleyball court, explore the tide pools, then relax with a beachside barbecue. For an extended beach break, campers can also check in to one of the beachfront campsites at Doheny State Beach Campground—this scenic spot pitches itself as "Orange County's best camping site.”
The sun shines year-round at Doheny Beach, and it's possible to surf, stroll, and camp through all four seasons. June through August is when the balmy temperatures are ideal for leisurely beach days. Expect crowds during this period, especially on weekends, and plan an early arrival time to snag a parking spot. Day use hours are from 6am till 10pm year-round.
