Explore endless mountains streams, trails to the Appalachian Trail, and remote dirt roads in the heart of the Mahoosucs from your secluded walk-in low impact tent site with privy. Deep swimming holes and trout fishing beckon. There are three sites: #1: Riverside (more secluded),#2:Hillside(closest to the parking), and #3: Fireside. The hillside and fireside sites can combine for a group although are at a short distance from each other. If weather conditions permit, all campers can share the fire circle and table. We purchased this land a few years ago when our neighbors decided to sell. It abuts our property They used it as a place for their family to gather and camp on during Maine wonderful summer season. It is a beautiful, quiet spot with a great view and a small pond. Hipcamp lets us share this spot and helps pay our property taxes.We are located in the western mountains of Maine in a summer community on Porter Lake. There is a beautiful view of New Vineyard mountain from our 3 acre field. We have 2 trailer sites with power and water (non potable) and an out house. The field has several fire pits and soft grassy spaces for pitching tents. The camping area is fairly private from our neighbors along the road. The site has a small private pond surrounded by trees you can sit and relax near. You can (walk/bike/drive) the 1/4 mile down the dirt road to the public beach. The beach has a public dock, boat ramp, swim float, picnic tables and grills. Paddle out to the island and try the rope swing with one of our kayaks or canoes. Be sure to check out the bald eagles that live in the white pine tree just a little farther down the island. You will hear the loons during your stay and possibly see a mother with her babies on her back. There are also ducks and ducklings and geese with gosling paddling about the lake. The state stocks the lake with trout, splake, and salmon if you like to fish. There is plenty to do right here!

The area is surrounded by lakes, ponds, state preserves, as well as in-town luxuries. The camp site can accommodate up to 6 people and 3 tents. RV's 20 feet or less are also welcome. The site is privately nestled at the back edge of the acreage and is accessible by vehicle. Included is a 16x12 tent platform, off grid solar lights, fire ring, Weber charcoal grill, solar shower, picnic table and a countertop table for preparing food, etc. The site is also equipped with 10 gallons of potable water from a gravity fed spigot. There is a newly built outhouse, and registered campers may enjoy the string lit patio and barn. The post & beam barn is useful for those rainy days with its farm style tables, rocking chairs, coffee maker, toaster oven, hot plate and guest refrigerator. Available for purchase are items such as ice, firewood, farm-fresh eggs, water, drinks, ice cream and baked goods. Corn-hole and other lawn games are also available for your enjoyment. If you're looking to hang your hammock and forget about the world or have a place that is close-by with lots to do.... Field of Faith on Lodge Hill is truly the best of both worlds.

Camp Streife

Streife translated from Norwegian means roam. The right to roam, also called the right of access, or everyman's right(“allemannsretten”) is a traditional right from ancient times, and since 1957 has also been a part of the Norwegian Outdoor Recreation Act. It ensures that everybody gets to experience nature, even on larger privately owned areas. In our travels to Norway, we learned of this law and loved the concept so much we brought it back with us to America. Yet we had no land to offer. So, we searched...and searched....and searched some more. Then we found what would become camp Streife. 20 acres of uncut timber growth forest, tucked in the hills of Rumford Maine. With a nearby brook, pond and within 20 minutes of some of our favorite ski locations it was just right. The rules of this law are simple. Be considerate and thoughtful. Don't damage nature and other surroundings. Leave the landscape as you would want to find it. Leave no trace. You may put up a tent, or sleep under the stars, for the night anywhere in the countryside, forests or mountains, as long as you keep at least 500 feet away from the nearest inhabited house or cabin. This rule of 500 feet distance also applies to camping cars and caravans. If you want to stay for more than two nights in the same place, you must ask the landowner's permission, except in the mountains or very remote areas. Well, we've taken care of all those Allemannsretten rules for you. We invite you to our small part of the world and encourage you to exercise your right to roam. Maine Primitive Skills School

The land was purchased by Mike and Karen Douglas in 1996 and has been the site of their residence and that of Maine Primitive Skills School, which teaches Wilderness Awareness, Survival and Self-Reliance Skills to hundreds of students from around the country and the globe each year. The land is split by Church Hill Road. The west side of the road is where the majority of the school's facilities are located and where most of the day-to-day activities take place. The plot east of the road is used for overnight experiences and as a place to observe animal tracks and sign. The forest here is a classroom as much as it is a garden. It has been tended with a caretaker attitude for two decades to increase the bounty of edible foods for animals and humans alike. We hope that all our visitors can enjoy and carry on this tradition by participating conscientiously with our sacred forest.Learn more about this land:Park your car at our parking lot near the road. Cross the boardwalk over the wetland. Walk through the clearing up a slight incline, to the trail-head, through the mixed hardwood forest, to a secluded campsite where you can watch the stars and listen to the sounds of the forest in the privacy of your campsite. Over 1000 acres of quiet State Wildlife Management land sits adjacent to our plot of land and is yours to explore! If you're up for a hike, follow the ATV trail to Spectacle Pond which is a 100-acre lake with an island in the middle. There are two disc golf courses within walking distance down the road from the trail-head if that's more your style. We run Maine Primitive Skills School, and the main facilities are located across the road. We rent out this area of the property to campers when we are not utilizing it for courses. Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary

The Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary was generously bequeathed to the Kennebec Land Trust in November 2016 upon owner Kendra Wakefield Shaw’s passing. Its 108-acres feature historic cabins and 4000 feet of frontage on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. The property’s coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands are important habitat for many species of birds, mammals, and plants. In 2018, the Maine Cabin Masters renovated two of the stream-side cabins, which now serve as rustic getaways for Hipcampers and the like. A small dock and canoes are available for use on the wide and deep flatwater stream! *NEW 2024 - A dock has been added to cabin 2, so each cabin now has it's own private dock. Please carry-out your trash after your stay. Thank you! Due to the sensitive wildlife habitat - no dogs are allowed at either cabin.
