You’ll have access to a composting pit toilet, and can access potable water from the tap in the lodge. That’s also where you can access hot showers. As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities. so please be respectful of hours when you come in for a shower. No showers after 10 pm For meals, we have picnic tables, and you are encouraged to cook over the fire pits that accompany each site. The property is very secluded, but only 2 hrs from D. C. and Baltimore. The space can accommodate 5 tents comfortably or a few small campers (w/o hookups). Please note- I only book one group at a time. You'll have plenty of privacy! Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. There is a cabin on the property. I will more often be home than not, I will communicate with you about that around your stay. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :) *Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. If this is the case during your stay, I will provide all necessary information regarding projected river levels and directions. I will also offer a full refund if the bridge is impassable. The furthest we are open at any given moment is about six months Description of camp: At this camp we only allow one group at a time for privacy. The campsite is a big level hilltop clearing surrounded by acres woods. We have a stone driveway that leads to the site that gets you back into the woods. The driveway is wide enough for trucks, trailers, vans, etc. Since the site is up high it gets a great breeze which helps on warm days and gets good cell service. The campsite gets great sun and has shaded areas along the sides that make for good tent pitching. We have had people set up hammocks, tents, tarps, or camp in their vehicle. We provide a privy (outhouse), an outdoor showerroom/changing room, a charcoal cooking pit, picnic tables, and a metal fire pit with grill rack that you can put in the fire pit if you wish to cook/grill over it. The woods are hilly so biking is not recomended. On the property we have 2+ miles of hiking trails that are marked with fluorescent ribbon. PLEASE feel free to contact us for any questions. Also please look at our pictures for a better idea of what we offer. Nearby Activities: A short drive from here will take you to Gettysburg, York, or Hanover. There are many excellent restaurants and brewpubs nearby, including the award winning Warehouse Gourmet Bistro and Brewpub. Let your children and dogs roam free without a leash. This property is remote and private. There are no neighbors nearby. This location is; twenty minutes north of I-76 Turnpike Willow Hill Exit forty-five minutes from Raystown Lake one hour and thirty minutes north of Gettysburg one hour and thirty minutes south of PSU three hours east of Pittsburgh three hours west of Philadelphia five hours west of NYC There is some cell service, but it is limited. Can you hear me now? Be sure to save site information on your phone before you leave, in case you lose cell-service. This is not Alaska, but it is not a KOA campground, either. We recommend you print of bring a paper map. Your GPS will not bring you to the exact driveway location. You need to be personally observant. This is the top of a mountain ridge. The access lane is steep, rocky, and has water erosion ditches you must drive over. Do not attempt this if you have a low profile car or a new/fragile camper. 4WD/AWD is highly recommended. Low profile and fancy cars are not recommended. This is not Alaska, but it is not a paved KOA campground, either. This camping site is for those who want to live ruggedly like Lewis & Clark, or Teddy Roosevelt. It is NOT for those who like their campground to be like The Villages of Florida where everything is flat, paved over, and you drive golf carts. This location is in a mix of farmland and mountain Appalachia. You will see common species such as chipmunks, squirrels turkey and deer. Many bird species. There are also porcupines, skunks, and black snakes around. You may also see black bear - it is rare, but possible. You are visiting wildlife species in their natural habitat. Please be self-aware of your own level comfort with wildlife. Once again, this is not an RVs park where you will socialize with a hundred other campers. This is primitive and isolated. This is an ideal camping spot if you want to escape from people. Nearby is the Tuscarora Creek which is excellent for trout fishing. The Tuscarora has a small but lovely window for kayaking from mid-March through the end of May. Please contact the host if you would like help to plan some paddle logistics. Twenty minutes south is Big Spring State Park which has an abandoned RR tunnel form the late 1800s. Forty-five minutes away is the 1,000 steps near Mt. Union which is part of the Standing Stone Trail that runs from Cowan’s Gap State Park to PSU. The Steps provides and amazing view of the Juniata River, and is a strenuous heart work-out. If you are interested in historic trains, East Broad Top Railroad is in Mt. Union. If members of your party would like a more pampered camping experience that includes real beds and hot showers, there is an adjoining property for rent on air b and b. About

Maple forests blanket the southern foothills of the Catoctin Mountains at Cunningham Falls State Park. Most day visitors make a beeline for the William Houck Area, home to the park’s namesake 78-foot waterfall. After hiking to the falls, head down to William Houck Lake to swim, rent a paddleboat, or relax on the sandy beach. Hikers can challenge themselves to some tough, mountainous trails throughout the park, or seek out a quiet spot to fish along the creeks. To the south, highlights of the Manor Area include the historic Catoctin Iron Furnace and an aviary, where you can spot hawks and bald eagles.

Notable campgrounds

Best for RVs: The main William Houck Campground has tent and trailer campsites, 33 with electric hookups, plus eight camper cabins, hot showers, and flush toilets.
Best for winter campers: The smaller Manor Area Campground has 21 basic sites and just 10 electric sites. It stays open through early December, but off-season campers have portable restrooms only–bathhouses and dump stations close in winter.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve 170 campsites and eight cabins via the Maryland Parks Reservations website.
Campsite reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance.
Campsites can book up fast, especially for peak season (June through September) and holiday weekends. Aim to book more than six months in advance for these times and even earlier for cabins and electric hookup sites.

When to go

As one of Maryland’s most popular state parks, Cunningham Falls draws huge crowds, especially over summer weekends and during its annual Maple Syrup Festival (March). Plan an early arrival if visiting at this time, especially over the Memorial Day and Fourth of July holiday weekends, when the park is likely to reach capacity and close the gates. Camping season runs from early April through the end of October—the Manor Area stays open through early December.

Know before you go

Cunningham Falls State Park is 69 miles northwest of Baltimore or about a 75-minute drive away. The main entry points are the William Houck Area, on Route 77, and the Manor Area, off Route 15. Per-vehicle fees to enter the park, as do campsite booking fees.
Picnic tables and grills are at both the Manor and William Houck areas, available on a first-come, first-served basis. A reservable picnic shelter can be found at Manor Area.
Leashed pets are permitted in the day-use areas, campgrounds, and along trails.
Cell phone service is patchy throughout the park, and many carriers do not have service in the Catoctin Mountains.
Black bears are present at Cunningham Falls State Park, so keep food and garbage secure in camping and day-use areas.
There are ADA-accessible campsites, a bathhouse, and a fishing pier at the William Houck Area.
