Camping near Dunedoo

Dunedoo—or “Dunny” as it’s affectionately known to locals—is a top contender when it comes to Australia’s most amusing town names. The town’s rather unfortunate nickname even led to proposals to build a giant “loo with a view” as a tourist attraction (sadly, the idea never came to fruition). Campers have plenty of reasons to upgrade Dunedoo to more than a rest stop, though. Nearby, Goulburn River National Park has riverside camping, natural sandstone caves to explore, and ancient Aboriginal rock art. To the north, Warrumbungle National Park is Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, which means spectacular stargazing, while Coolah Tops National Park is a waterfall-dotted paradise for hikers and mountain bikers. Check into a Dunedoo caravan park with cabin and van rentals—caravan spots in the area are likely to feature powered and unpowered sites. Or snag a spot at a local Hipcamp such as a quiet farm stay, a spacious caravan site, or a self-contained cabin.
