Hi Everyone and Welcome to our home and a very special property called Platypus Bush Camp. The property has been operating as a bushcamp / rainforest retreat for 40 years and from what we hear regularly it is one of Australia's most unique campsites and it feels nice too :) The bushcamp feels like you are going back in time and has a hint of Asia / South America with the building style and nature but you are in the Aussie rainforest / bush and then we trow in some country hospitality and humour so we can all enjoy our time. There are 4 creeks that flow all year into an absolutely stunning swimming hole that is the largest and deepest in Finch Hatton Gorge. We are off grid but with all the modern amenities like flushing toilets, stunning hot showers with rainforest views (if you like), large fully equipped camp kitchens with everything you need, there is even a pizza oven and usb charging ports and you can see and hear the water from the kitchens and the dining areas. Accomodation options include:
 - 10 unpowered sites available which suit a variety of set ups including sites with your own private deck looking over the creek, shaded sites and sites with sun for solar - please refer to each site description for specific site size and photos. - 6 unpowered tent sites in our grassed where the main fire pit is located - no vehicles are permitted on the grassed area but parking is close by. - 3 private creekside huts / tree houses with stunning views, comfortable beds and bedding. Pets are welcome - as long as they are well behaved and owners clean up after them. There is a central fire pit with seating and cooking plate and an undercover fireplace / dining room as well if there is any rain or bring your own fire pit and use at your site. The property is located in the Pioneer Valley just outside Mackay, Queensland. We are 2 kilometres from the breathtaking Finch Hatton Gorge in the Eungella National Park. Just 1 hour drive from Mackay and 2 hours from Airlie Beach and the drive here is beautiful too. Two or three nights is a good amount of time to be able to explore the area including Eungella National Park, Finch Hatton Gorge (Araluen Cascades & Wheel of Fire) while still having time to relax at the Bushcamp. It will be nice to meet you. Shane and Family.

Platypus Bush Camp offers a serene and picturesque environment that many visitors find relaxing and rejuvenating. The camp is praised for its well-maintained facilities, including stunning showers and a comfortable camp kitchen. However, some guests have noted issues with sites being close together and occasional noise from the communal area. Overall, it's a favored spot for those seeking a natural escape, with many planning to return.

Awesome spot, can’t wait to come back. Shane greeted us upon arrival and was extremely welcoming and friendly. Site 10 was perfect for our camp trailer with plenty of room and enough sun for solar while still being shady. Close to the gorge, and the amenities are first class!

A Perfect Getaway! 🌲🏕️
I recently had the pleasure of camping at this beautiful site with four kids, and I can't recommend it enough! As I was a solo parent this camp trip, finding a comfortable and welcoming place to camp is essential, and this spot exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we arrived, the owner made us feel right at home. Their friendly and easy-going nature set the tone for a relaxing stay. The campsite is simply stunning, nestled right beside a serene river/creek, which provided the perfect backdrop for our adventures. The sound of the flowing water was incredibly soothing and made our evenings by the campfire even more enjoyable. The amenities were also a great perk—hot showers and flushing toilets made the experience feel less like roughing it and more like a comfortable escape into nature. Overall, this camping spot is a hidden gem, ideal for families and couples. If you're looking for a peaceful and friendly atmosphere in the great outdoors, this is the place to be. We can't wait to come back!

We had a lovely time in the camp, we were camping in our camper van and the staff was super friendly, they do take care very well of the whole site and it is perfect to disconnect of your life and connect with nature. Mark and Zoe helped us a lot on making ourselves feel home and even recommended us on our next stop. I will come back here.
