Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Rivers Edge is 24 acres of forest on the banks of the Leven River in Gunns Plains, Tasmania. We are in our own little valley surrounded by tall forests. Preston Creek flows all year through our property and meets the large Leven River where your campsite is situated. Perfect for trout fishing, platypus watching, bird watching or catching the sun setting through the trees on the river bend. There are even the endangered black fresh water crayfish. The site is large enough for up to 5-6 caravans for large bookings, and we only take one booking at a time, so its exclusively yours. We are only 20km to the nearest town, Ulverstone which as everything you need. The road is close by the campsite with easy access to find the property. No toilet facilities at the site. Sat TV is good and limited mobile reception. Telstra works best we've found. River access over a rocky, uneven embankment as it's a natural, untouched environment, just how we and the native animals like it. Campfires ONLY PERMITTED when fire restrictions aren't in place. You absolutely must make sure your campfire is fully extinguished before you leave. Please check "My Trips" (in your profile) for directions once confirmed. Look for the 'Rivers Edge' sign on the entrance gate, then you know youve got the right site and not the neigbours property (which is along side mine on the river) Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept with you at all times, no roaming dogs as the road is close by. We love the peace and serenity here so please no unruly behaviour or parties.Welcome to your own beautiful riverfront camp. Wild and rocky natural river edge, great for climbing over rocks; you'll loose hours just beach-combing, fishing (ultimate fishing spot..) or kayaking (tip: wear wetsuit booties) Your spot is on the river side with own access gate, (we live across the road) close to the road which is lightly screened by trees, easy access on gravel crossover. Area is a wild grassed paddock (not manicured and has weeds) with small trees, gently slopes down with access to the river. Spotted with young Blackwood and wattle trees. Great views on the river bend watching the sun set down the river valley though the tall forest. Platypus spotting dawn/dusk. Perfect trout fishing, canoeing and swimming spot. Watch the kayaks sweep past when the conditions are sweet. Fire pit available to use in season when there's no fire-ban. The entire few acres on the river banks are divided between our property and the neighbours. There is a wire fence dividing so make sure you set up on the right property! Look for the gate off the road with "Rivers Edge" sign on it. Camping/RV/caravans ONLY, no toilets on site- but public toilets are 2km down road. 20km to Ulverstone which has great cafes, pubs supermarkets etc. And just down the road is Wings Wildlife park (great cafe) and the awesome Gunns Plains Caves, both worth a visit.

Enter through the gate and there's enough room to circle a caravan around to where you want. The mowed area shows you where the obvious place is to pull up and park & camp, closer to the river. The rest of the site is wild.

Pets allowed
On leash. We strongly recommend all pets to be kept on a leash while hanging out with you, the road is close by & there is always the possibility of snakes...you are in the bush after all. And we are a working hobby farm with other animals on our side that we don't want to meet your lovely fur babies.
No toilet; campers must bring camp toilets
No potable water
Bring your own water, purify from river or stream. We drink from the creek that meets the big river on your campsite, so feel free to drink (& filter if you wish) that water, it's quite lovely as it comes from the waterfall/springs further up the Gunns Plains valley.

Beautiful spot by the river and helpful host! We had a lovely time. Not too much traffic. Block is maintained well. Big firepit. The only negative was the people staying on the neighbouring property invading our privacy using a drone.

Beautiful spot to stay in a beautiful area. The instructions provided for locating the site were spot on. The host, Andrew, came to welcome us once we arrived which was very kind. Would definately recommend this lovely spot.

Loved the area, very scenic, and well layed out. The sound of the river was very relaxing. Shame the fish weren't taking the lure. 🤔 Overall all 7 of us are keen to come back again as soon as we can. Oh did I mention the star gazing. Can't believe the amount of satellites and shooting stars we saw. Great spot, thoroughly recommend it. We give it 4.5 stars out 5

Beautiful grassy flats on the Leven river. Take a kayak to paddle in the upstream pools or sit back and listen to the river rush over the rocks. We loved the serenity and majestic landscape.
