Learn more about this land: We are set high on the piney east bank of the Kennebec River. The view is of the setting sun over the untouched hillsides on the opposite bank or the rising sun illuminating and bringing to life that same hillside while you take your first peak of morning. The river rushes by, not a house to be seen. In the distance a loon frolics and sings out it's soulful call. Bald eagles soar over head, fishing, scanning the river valley. Owls hooting in the valley, come closer in the night to see who is still up. There is an echo in the darkness, works during the day too. The stars blaze overhead in the night sky, watch "satellites" track across heavens and the Aurora Borealis, if you are lucky and still up around the camp fire. It is here in front of our camp, where The Kennebec River continues to flow but begins slowing down, stacking up depth behind the Moscow Dam and turning into Wyman Lake, 14 miles of the most scenic boating or paddling you can imagine. 200 yards north of the camp, The Appalachian Trail crosses the river, watch hikers waiting for the famous canoe ferry crossing. Or, hike a section of the trail, Pierce Pond is a healthy 2 hr hike from the camp, to a pristine pond for a remote dip or some fishing. Bring that kayak or stand up paddle board, the river is fun right here, explore for an hour, a day or days. Whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing are huge in West Forks, (10 minutes North up 201, watch out for deer and moose) you'll paddle The Dead, The Kennebec and the Penobscot rivers, all the major tour companies are very local and there are cool bars and restaurants. You can tube down from the Forks right to the cabin in a couple of hours. We have a big Glamping tent on the property too, that is listed for rent separately on air bnb as The Duck Flashing Moose Glamping on the Kennebec, rent it too if you want the whole space for friends or the place all to yourselves.Right on the Kennebec River with a pristine undeveloped view of nature. This is basic camping but the setting is amazing. We are right on the water so prepare for water sports like canoeing, Kayaking, bring a boat if you have one, paddle board, fish, pan for gold. You should hike a section of the Appalachian trail, it crosses just up river, hike into Moxie Falls. We are locally famous for the Class III-IV rapids so raft, kayak or canoe on the Dead River, the Upper Kennebec, the Penobscot rivers. You may be sharing the property with renters of our brand new 2023 Glamping tent or you could rent both spots and have room for friends or the place all to your self.

Beautiful
Tent
We absolutely loved camping at the Flashing Moose! We only had an issue the first night, the other tent on the property was rented and they parked in our spot. We came in after 8 pm so they probably thought the site would be empty. They moved and there was no issues. Other than that we really loved the site! It was very peaceful. We had 2 bald eagles visit us, and heard the loons. We will definitely be back.

Not private but beautiful spot
Tent
Absolutely beautiful spot to camp. Unfortunately, it's close to another site not posted on here. It is not as exclusive as it may seem. If you get the right people staying on other site, it won't be an issue. We weren't so fortunate. You should plan on getting both sites.

No need to leave the site!

What a beautiful spot Erik has! We enjoyed kayaking right from the site. We anchored our tubes and floated in the sunshine ☀️ and caught some fish from shore. You might not be alone since there is a Glamping tent on site also, but look at the view and you forget you have neighbors! Thank you Erik for a wonderful stay!

The site is just beautiful with the river right in front of you! Great location with easy access to many outfitters if you want that. The glamping tent was closer to our site than I would have liked, but it worked out anyway.

This is the most perfect camping site! It’s peaceful, quiet, and the best spot to reconnect with nature. We saw five bald eagles, countless loons, and a whole ton of other cool birds. With a fire going and a citronella candle, the bugs were not a major issue. There’s a metal grate for cooking over the fire and a clothesline already strung up. Watch out for poison oak around the property, if you know what you’re looking for then it’s easy to avoid.

Over all not a bad experience, one campsite is on two different booking sites, so you run into over booking and as private as I would have liked
