Redwood biking, beach hiking, and even San Francisco are within reach of a San Rafael RV campsite.
Right on the water in San Francisco’s North Bay, San Rafael has excellent city and nature access for RV campers. Multiple San Rafael RV parks and Larkspur campsites offer full hookups, wifi, and other helpful amenities, but for additional North Bay RV camping options, look into Novato, Sonoma, and Napa. China Camp State Park preserves 1,514 acres of waterfront land and a historic Chinese-American fishing settlement but offers only enroute RV camping for single nights. Mount Tamalpais, which rises up above San Rafael, has no RV camping but is home to the ancient redwood trees at the Muir Woods National Monument, perfect for a day visit. There are miles of hiking and mountain biking trails in the Marin Headlands, and Pacific Coast beaches with swimming and surfing like Stinson Beach and Bolinas are less than an hour away. Even better if you want some time in the city: San Rafael is right next to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal for easy access to San Francisco.
