We also host workshops and on-farm events including the annual music, arts and food festival called Fledge Fest held at the camp site location each summer. Find more information on our website! The forest is actively managed for firewood and saw logs. The land is incredibly diverse from a high exposed hill top to a deep a forested mountain brook and everything in between. Come pitch your tent on a remote hill top surrounded by amazing views and nearly two hundred acres of diverse forests and pasture lands. The camp sites are private from each other with a large common area at the top of the hill with a fire pit, lean-to shelter, outhouse complex with water for hand washing (seasonally available) and sweeping views of the Green Mountains. There are trails for hiking and mountain biking (no dirt bikes or ATV's) all over the farm and a beautiful brook in a sheltered mountain valley. Willoughby Farm Animal Rescue

9 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents107 acres · Fairlee, VT
We are a 107-acre forest and farm animal rescue. Sleep with the sheep, alpacas, donkeys, potbellied pigs, and rabbits when you pitch your tent or park your camper on our Vermont Farm! Reserve the group site and sleep in the middle of the action! (You do not need a "group" to reserve the group site -- it is just our biggest site and can accommodate groups!). Co-located in the open, grassy area with the free-roaming farm rescues is our RV site. Co-located sites share a community fire ring, so it's a great way to meet and make new friends! Don't have a tent or RV? Spend a magical night in "The Greenhouse" (it's a real, working greenhouse that doubles as accommodations for those looking for a more "glamping" experience). Want a little privacy? Reserve one of our two tricked-out Tent Deck sites (Buddha North and Grandmother Pine), each with its own picnic table, private fire ring, and commercial-grade park grill. Nestled discretely in the forest adjacent to the area where the animals are, you will feel like you are in the middle of nowhere even though you are less than a 5-minute walk from your car! Looking for something a bit more remote and spectacular? Hike a half-mile to the Big Sky Tent Deck. An incredible vista awaits you for a little effort! Need gear? We have it for rent, from cast iron grill baskets and griddles to make cooking over a charcoal grill or fire a breeze to tents to 1- and 2- burner propane stoves to tarps to water containers. We even have an Anker Portable Power Station and Portable Kerosene Heater for rent! Need Supplies? Charcoal? Propane? We've got it. ----- We are a small non-profit (501c3). When you stay with us, rent equipment from us, or take a tour with us, 100% of the money you pay goes directly for the care and feeding of the rescue animals. Thanks for supporting us in making a difference in the lives of neglected, abused, and abandoned farm animals! ----- CAMP FOR FREE WEEKEND SEPT 20-21 2024 Come for the weekend and make a difference in the lives of Rescues. Spend the weekend helping us prep for Winter, maintaining and building fencing, planting daffodils, clearing brush, pitchforking manure (important and necessary work), hoof trimming, painting, and everything in between. Green Gem Yurt Farm Stay

3 sites · Lodging93 acres · Newfane, VT
It's lambing time!!! This is the best time of year to visit us, as maximum cuteness is running around just a short walk across the suspension bridge from where you will be staying! We currently have 11 newborn lambs all less than two weeks old (two new arrivals today!) and two ewes are still waiting to deliver. Who knows...maybe they will wait til you get here! Our farm was named after the summer home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Trollhaugen Farm means Troll hill, but the only real trolls around these parts are the sheep. Our farm has sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks that you are welcome to visit. The yurt sits under the trees next to a babbling brook. A suspension bridge connects you to the farm area. The yurt is private and has a fire pit right out back where you can grill or just sit and enjoy the fire. The colorful yurt offers a comfy four poster bed, a small kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and composting toilet. This is a great place for children, bikers, swimmers, hikers or anyone who just wants to get away from it all for a few days. There are many lovely hikes, one of which takes you to a pond you can swim in. You can also hike up in the woods behind the yurt. Newfane village is one of the most picturesque villages in Vermont, with a courthouse on the green. There are two restaurants in Newfane, two coffee shops, a flea market on Sundays, and a great antique store. We are close to Brattleboro, home to one of the best coops in the northeast, as well as many fun stores and an art museum. Please come visit us!

Camping near Lebanon with horseback riding guide

Overview

In the heart of the Upper Valley, along the Connecticut River, the small New Hampshire city of Lebanon offers many activities including arts and entertainment and easy access to an array of year-round outdoor adventures, such as kayaking along the winding river in summer and skiing on the surrounding snow-covered mountains in winter. Attractions in the city itself include the Colburn Park Historic District, where you’ll find Colburn Park and many 19th-century buildings, and the Lebanon Opera House, which is the setting for concerts and other performances.

Where to go

Hanover

Just six miles north of Lebanon, Hanover is renowned as the home of the Ivy League Dartmouth College, the grounds of which you can explore. The Hood Museum of Art is another top attraction, but the hamlet also appeals to nature lovers with many trails to choose from, including several up Mount Monadnock and the Appalachian Trail, which runs down Main Street.

Quechee

A 15-minute drive takes you over the Vermont border and into Quechee, best known for its gorge and mountains that provide excellent terrain for skiing and other winter sports. Visitors can set up camp at Quechee State Park Campground.

Mount Cardigan

Thirty minutes east, the 3,155-foot treeless, rock summit of Mount Cardigan draws many hikers who can enjoy views that extend as far as Camel's Hump in Vermont and Pleasant Mountain in Maine. Camping is available at Appalachian Mountain Club's Cardigan Lodge.

White Mountains

The White Mountain National Forest and various New Hampshire state parks encompass much of central New Hampshire, making the area a haven for outdoor adventurers. Less than an hour and a half from Lebanon, Franconia Notch State Park offers hiking, biking, and climbing, as well as two campsites.

When to go

Spring and summer are ideal for enjoying the trails and river activities, making these the most popular seasons to visit Lebanon and the surrounding area, although you should be prepared for crowds in the peak summer season. September and October have a different appeal, with cooler temperatures and the landscape busting into rich fall colors. Winters are relatively crowd-free and offer winter sports activities.
