Strawberry Fields Forever

5 sites · RVs5 acres · Watsonville, CA
Welcome to southern Santa Cruz County, home of some of the longest and most beautiful beaches in central California. We are located in La Selva Beach, an eight-minute walk to Manresa State Beach. We are a small, working farm with vegetable and flower gardens, chickens and bees. There are many excellent places nearby to hike, walk, surf, swim, tide pool or just sit and enjoy the view. We offer three campsites, two have fantastic, unobstructed views of the three hundred acres of strawberry fields that back up to our property. Our campsites provide water and electric hookups and are only appropriate for self-contained recreational vehicles and trailers. One of the sites has no size constraints on RVs or trailers. We have plenty of room for a second vehicle. We do offer a port-a potty, but not sinks or showers. We do not accommodate on the ground tent camping or in your car camping. The Valley View site is very quiet as it is farthest from the road, and is the most private. The Gateway site is near the road and does not have a view of the strawberry fields, but guests who are just looking for a quick stop over or base camp love it. The Strawberry and Surf site has no size restrictions and it backs up to San Andreas Rd. All site are walking distance to Manresa State Beach. We love to host guests and will provide information about things to do and see in our area. We often loan our State Parks pass so that you can venture out to Point Lobos, Wilder Ranch, Sunset Beach, Natural Bridges and more. Each camp site includes a fire pit and a generous wagon of wood. Two camp chairs and a picnic table are included as well. We also offer farm fresh eggs, baked goods and other treats (see our Extras). We are 15 minutes from the village of Capitola, 30 minutes from downtown Santa Cruz and 45 minutes to Monterey. There is a Dump station 5 minutes down the road at the KOA (for a fee).

Fern Ridge Flats - Private Camping

2 sites · Tents9 acres · Aptos, CA
Nestled in a canopy of redwoods, less than 10 miles from the beach sits a private and cozy campground. Fern Ridge Flats combines the best of Santa Cruz county. Abundant trees and misty mornings await you at our property in Aptos. Equipped with electricity, water, and a picnic table for your convenience. There are trails on the land for you to explore, animals, and nature to dive into. *************** Smoking and the use of drugs are strictly prohibited. This is a safe and quiet neighborhood with many families including my own. Please do not request to book if you have the intention of partying or using illegal substances. If these rules are violated, local authorities will be called and you will be removed from the campsite. *************** The campsite is less than a 5 minute walk from the parking spot but is relatively steep. Although it is paved it is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. *************** As an added precaution to protect the lush landscape, the firepit at the campsite utilizes clean burning propane. We chose a burner that closely replicates the size and heat of a wood to enhance our campers' experience.

The best camping near Asilomar State Beach guide

Overview

About

Spread out over 107 acres of beach and forest just west of Monterey, Asilomar State Beach offers a mix of sandy shores and rocky coastline, plus a mile-long, paved and wheelchair-accessible coastal trail. It’s a popular spot for tide pooling, while architecture fans may be interested in checking out the 13 Arts and Crafts-style buildings that comprise the on-site conference center, built in 1913 for the YWCA. While there are privately operated lodges on-site inside the Asilomar Conference Grounds, the park offers no overnight camping.

When to go

Asilomar State Beach is open all year long, and is at its busiest during the summer months, when temperatures are at their most pleasant (with highs in the upper 60s or low 70s) and the chance of rainfall is slim to none. Winters in this temperate part of the coast are cool but rarely anywhere close to freezing, though heavy rainfall from December through March may deter some visitors from stopping by.

Know before you go

  • Dogs are allowed on the beach and trails, but not inside conference ground buildings. They must remain on leashes no longer than six feet in length.
  • The beach is part of the Asilomar Marine Reserve, and disturbing or collecting anything from the beach or its tidepools (including rocks, shells, and driftwood) is prohibited.
  • The park and its conference facilities are wheelchair accessible, as are many trails (including the boardwalk). A loaner beach wheelchair and loaner beach walker are available inside the conference center’s Phoebe Hearst Social Hall.
