Weekend Trip to Swedish Lilac Campground & Events

Swedish lilac campground is awesome! Its small, which I prefer. There are multiple sites close by the river. Hosts were super sweet, 1st they said I could pick any open site, not just what I had booked and ended up choosing a riverfront site. They have nice bathhouses, which is good when youre hot water heater isnt working, they have wifi, gave us some wood, invited us to join their easter egg hunt and always made sure we were doing good. They also gifted me some of their farm fresh eggs for staying multiple days. There are quite a few places you could go to. South enterance of Shenandoah is only an hour, 30 minutes south & youve got natural bridge state park. West youve got thomas jefferson and george washington national forest, doughit state park, and warm spring pools! I look forward to visiting them again sometime in the future.

What an outstanding spring break camping trip with my daughter! The owners, Fritz and Valerie, were there to meet us on arrival and made sure we had enough firewood to start our week. They checked on us every day to make sure we were enjoying our stay and made a few recommendations for hiking that we took advantage of. We stayed in RV Site 12 instead of 1 since it was empty. The site was right along the river and very peaceful, so quiet at night and only a few cars passing during the day. There is a railroad track across the river, but we only heard a few trains during our stay. The campground and bathrooms were very clean and offered everything we needed. My daughter loved getting to meet the baby goats and our dogs enjoyed roaming the campground. The campground is in a rural area with spotty cell service, but the WiFi provided the connection we needed to check in with family each day. This campground definitely goes on the list to revisit in the future! Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Phantom Hill Forest Retreats

We camped at Catbird and it was awesome! We will definitely be back. Very private and peaceful. The stream next to the campsite was great and the camp set up was perfect! Highly recommend!

I would definitely recommend it to anyone ! Especially if camping with little ones! My children enjoyed the hike and finding treasures and gnomes alone the trails !! Loved the experience and would recommend it to everyone. Kathryn is great when needing to communicate with her !!!

We had an awesome time! Even though we could see other campers, it felt very private. Having the kayaks on site for campers to use was a huge plus. We would definitely go back! Highly recommended!

Beautiful camping spot. The views are breathtaking and the site is set all by itself. David was a great host and even gave us a tour of his land on his four-wheeler, which our kids loved too! Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again if we’re in the area. Thank you for sharing your land with us!

Jeremy is such a nice, interesting individual. His vision for the property is amazing, and we look forward to circling to back to watch it grow. Our stay was comfortable and laid back; we felt welcome and safe but had space to experience the land and creek on our own time. A generous and flexible host, and a perfect stop if you’re wanting to explore Floyd. Extra credit for the sweet dogs and family of ducks. The proximity to a somewhat busy road is something to consider if you’re seeking isolation, but it wasn’t an issue for us at all.

2 nights at Swedish Lilac Campground & Events

The Sweedish Lilac camp was so peaceful, clean and relaxing. We tent camped right on the south river and were so impressed with the grounds. The best part of our stay by far was our hosts Valerie and Fritz who obviously care about their property and their guests immensely. We were there for our kids spring break week and they offered fun extra things like feeding two of their baby goats. We felt so safe and so appreciated the nice bathhouse and all the private charm of their grounds. Everything was lovely and nestled perfectly in an area with lots of hiking access. Can't wait to return.

2 nights at Swedish Lilac Campground & Events

We had a very pleasant experience camping at Swedish Lilac Campground. Our hosts were fantastic and made us feel so welcome. They gave us firewood at no charge, and when they saw that we had kids, they brought baby goats for them to feed. The campground and bathhouse were clean and well maintained. Our campsite was spacious, and our 40’ travel trailer with three slideouts fit easily. The campground has access to the river, and the kids had fun throwing rocks into the water to see how big they could splash. Although there isn’t a playground at the campground, there’s plenty of grass to play on and the campground is a pretty good size, with plenty of room for riding bikes. There is an elementary school with two very nice playgrounds about 4 miles down the road. Swedish Lilac Campground is conveniently located not far from Lexington, Buena Vista, and Natural Bridge, where you’ll find plenty of trails, museums, parks, restaurants, etc. After a day of fun, you can go back to this little retreat and relax to the sound of the river. Although we were staying in a camper, I could hear the sound of the vehicles passing by on the road at night, so I’d recommend running a fan or a/c at night or using a white noise machine if you are not used to that. It’s a rural road and not busy, but just something to be aware of. Lucky for us, Swedish Lilac Campground is only a short, beautiful drive from our home, so we will be back again for sure. 10 out 10!

1 night at Phantom Hill Forest Retreats

Wonderful hosts, beautiful, relaxing creekside camping. Worth the hike in! Kathryn went out of her way to help us feel comfortable. Was camping with two small children and the weather forecast predicted severe thunderstorms. Kathryn brought us the gator in case we needed to evacuate. The tent held up perfectly in the storm and the kids slept through the whole thing. But I really appreciated having it just in case. Will definitely be back!

Hosts are wonderful! Very welcoming and communicative. Went out of their way to bring baby goats to the campground for our kids to feed. Provided plenty of firewood and great conversation! The sites are well maintained and equipped. Bathhouse is clean. We tent camped but most of the people there were RV camping. Wi-Fi worked perfectly since there is no cell service. Kids loved the river and biking around the campground. Beautiful, peaceful location. Freight trains come through every now and then across the river but we enjoyed that. Others might be disturbed by the noise at night. 15 minutes from Lexington (nice town) and Chessie Nature Trail (highly recommend for a scenic bike ride or stroll). 30 minutes from Natural Bridge State Park, 20 minutes from Blue Ridge Parkway.

We came here because we had an event nearby, and it was convenient. After seeing the campground and meeting the hosts I would come back here just for the campground! The river looks and sounds beautiful, hookups had good power and water (not to mention fast WiFi. Important as cell service for Tmobile was scarce but wifi calling was fantastic!) The hosts were friendly and helpful, checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. They even brought a couple of the tiniest baby goats and let the kids bottle feed them.

Weekend Trip to Hippie Hollow

Jeremy is an amazing host with a great vision. The spot by the creek he is creating is a gem. It has rained for days so the ground was soggy. We weren't gonna make it to camp before the show we were checking out at the Floyd country store so he made a little video of the least muddy spot. Pulled in and a full moon greeted us over the creek where the sun rose in the AM. 2 minutes from Floyd! Such a great spot and Super host. Thanks for making us feel welcomed.

We had site #2 . Beautiful property. The host was very nice and accommodating. The sites are all close to the water. You can still see the other campers and hear them but they were all a good distance from one another( its a hike to get to each site) Our site had the most shade which would be great for warmer weather, he was planning to put another site close to ours which would be very close so if you had a friend or family member you wanted to camp with you could have separate sites but be close enough to walk from one to the other. There are trails you can walk throughout the property. The fishing was good also. You can fish off the bank or use a boat or kayak. There is a little country store no more than 5 min from the property also. Very quiet and relaxing spot. Lots of wildlife.

What a wonderful camp! We stayed at a tent site near the river for the weekend and could not have had a better time. Swedish Lilac has everything one could need; clean modern bathrooms (with showers!), water pumps, electric, well maintained grounds with clear and flat grassy sites, even wifi if you are so inclined. The camp hosts were friendly, gracious, and helpful. They checked in frequently to make sure everything was perfect, and even brought some baby goats down to the camp for the kids to feed! We’ll be camping here again for sure next time we’re in the area.

This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. Learn more about this land: Come take a load off at this forested Richmond retreat overlooking Reedy Creek. Set up a tent, car camp, or bring your small trailer to one of two sites on a unique property backed up to 20+ acres of woods. Imagine a hidden gem where you can relax to the sounds of rushing water and chirping birds, but can walk or bike to coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, parks or the river. If you are coming into Richmond for a Brown's Island event we are a five minute Uber to an access point using the Potterfield walking bridge (it's a beautiful walk across the James River to the island). Each campsite includes 3 level spots to pitch tents (see dimensions below), and a connected space to park one car, van or small trailer. The large parking space can be used as a fourth tent footprint if needed. There are additional parking spaces. Each site has a fire pit (with firewood on site), a grate to grill over the fire, a picnic table, and a hammock. There is a shared outbuilding with a composting toilet, hand washing sink, outdoor shower (solar warmed), and space to change privately. The recreational draw to this area is hard to beat in VA and this property has it all for an amazing outdoor weekend! The ranch consists of 40 acres of low-land pasture, groomed perfectly for camping groups large or small. The Lakeside Mountain Stream site offers the option to camp on our 5-acre lake or camp creekside in the Cedar Grove sites along the banks of Passage Creek. Creek access varies at each site depending on the bank. The Ceadar Grove sites are just a short walk to the lake and beach amenities. The property has 1/2mi of Passage Creek wrapping around all the campsites, as well as, the privet lake to enjoy. I have all kinds of boats to try out and the waters are stocked with Bass, Blue Gill, and Catfish. Please catch and release. Passage Creek is stocked with Rainbow, Brown, Tiger, and Brook Trout throughout the year. The prime waters are just a mile upstream from Pastimes on Passage Creek Ranch. The Creekside Cedar sites are located within a sparse, groomed, Cedar grove along the banks of Passage Creek. These sites are extra large and can accommodate multiple family groups, as well as, travel trailers of all sizes up to off-road motorcoaches in site 1. There are no hookups, so It's just boondocking. Pack it in, Pack it out. Generators are allowed but please be aware of the other sites and direct the noise away. Groups of up to 25 people per site can realistically fit. Each site is very large with car camping space included. The Lakeside Mountain Stream site is very secluded, nestled between the mountains and the lake. It overlooks our 5-acre lake with mirror mountain views in the background. This site also has its own dock and is just a short walk down a mowed trail to a beautiful section of Passage Creek. An additional seasonal mountain stream can cascade behind the site and run under it to feed the lake when the conditions are right. The road can accommodate bumper pulls up to about 35ft to make the turn at the site. However, it is best suited for lighter traffic and smaller tent groups. At higher capacity, single-file parking is needed along the lake road. Max 10 people in order to keep some grass on the ground. Please, if you need more space - go to one of the Cedar Grove sites. Locally, the North end of Fort Valley offers many great hiking trails, trout fishing, rock climbing, horseback riding, and the Elizabeth Furnace day-use park. Taskers Gap OHV/ATV park is a short drive south, and the valley is sandwiched between both forks of the Shenandoah River for those looking to paddle. Additionally, the local towns (Front Royal, Strasburg, Woodstock) offer their own charm and wide range of activities and attractions.
