1 night at Valhalla Tree Farm

What an exceptionally beautiful place- the peace and quiet afforded by this sweet refuge was just what I needed to completely relax and shed my stress. I stayed in the small cabin, which was simple but comfortable, with a sink and outhouse, and a wonderful gas stove that kept the cabin so toasty warm...There are no outlets available so keep that in mind and be prepared if you need cell phone access, I found being off grid exceptionally freeing. The host included a summary of the short trails available on the massive property and was responsive to questions and issues...This was definitely a great find and highly recommend- don't forget to bring blankets and a towel for the outdoor shower!

Weekend Trip to Secluded Hillside Camp

It was such a welcoming treat to step into a cozy platform tent here; I had no idea how cool it would be, and on a toasty night where I expected to be out in my own tiny little tent… this was luxury! The hosts were super welcoming and easy to communicate with, even when my plans changed. I loved the setup (chairs, bed, table) and how it was configured. The wood stove was key!

2 nights at Forest Farmstead

We had such a great time staying at this yurt camp! We came with kids and weren’t sure what to expect, but everything was honestly perfect. The beds were super warm and comfy (huge bonus with kids), and the fire kept the whole space cozy at night. We had access to hot water, a clean compost toilet, and everything we needed in the kitchen—pants and utensils. There was a full propane stove, fresh water, and electricity, plus extra blankets, heated blankets, a heater, fan, lights. It was rainy during our stay, but it ended up being the best kind of camping: dry, cozy, and peaceful inside the yurt while still being surrounded by nature. It was super quiet and peaceful the whole time, which made it so relaxing. We forgot our French press and coffee filters (oops), but made it work with paper towels and still managed to enjoy our morning coffee! The urinal we saw in a few of the photos was actually gone, but it worked out better for us without it anyway. The location is also perfect—really close to some amazing state and national parks, so we got to explore, hike, and spend quality time outdoors as a family. Back at the yurt, there were tons of board games, puzzles, and books, which made downtime really fun and chill, especially with the kids. Everything was well maintained, super clean, and just felt really thoughtful. The hosts were great and made sure we had everything we needed. It was the perfect mix of rustic and comf

We stayed at the cabin and additional tent site and had a wonderful time. The scenery here seems like something out of someone’s imagination. It rained quite a bit during our stay but we still had a wonderful time. The forest was so pretty and the sun would hit the nearby mountain at certain points during the day and it appeared as if nature was lighting it up! We loved it here and will definitely be returning in the future!

Stairs both into the treehouse and up to the bedroom, but oh so worth it!

2 nights at Romantic Forest Hide-a-Way

We had a great time at this little cabin. The view on one side had a view of construction equipment and there was some construction noise when we arrived but it stopped shortly after and did not resume. We had a great time going through all the tapes in the cabin- our favorite was Kitaro Astral Voyage. The grounds were nice to take a walk on, and found it extraordinarily easy to have a dog with us, the gate at the top of the stuff was perfect to keep him contained while in the hot tub and there was so much space for him to run around and get some energy out. The wood stove kept the cabin plenty warm- almost too warm much of the time so we had windows cracked and the fresh air was nice. The only part that was iffy to me was asking for us to do our own cleaning up, as well as leave a tip for the housekeeper, as well as a $100 cleaning fee and while this has become standard for most places unfortunately, it doesn’t sit well with me to ask for all 3 of those things, especially as the cabin wasn’t pristinely clean to begin with. The dust bunnies under the upstairs bed and splatters on the wall around the stove and the splatter on the bathroom door need attention, however we are not clean freaks and it wasn’t too much of a bother. Overall we had a lovely time and would recommend this spot. Next time we would probably go for the yurt as it is slightly more secluded without being in view of houses/construction equipment. Oh, and large people might struggle to get up the stairs. 5*

Weekend Trip to The Village at Rainier

Excellent place to stay while visiting Mt Ranier National Park. Cute, cozy cabin. We loved the river access and the hot tub was amazing after hiking all day.

3 nights at Forest Farmstead

We had a great time staying in the Yurt Palace. My husband and I traveled with four of our children age 12-18 and the Yurt had plenty of space for all of us to eat, sleep and hangout. The property was nice and expansive and was great for some flashlight hide and seek. The rope swing gave our kids hours of entertainment and the treehouse was really cool. The onsite host was very responsive and helpful making sure we had everything we needed. The wood stove kept the Yurt very warm and there were plenty of blankets. We would definitely stay here again!!

3 nights at Overnight at the Oasis

Well kept cabin and plenty of wild life in the area. Definitely check in with the hosts when you arrive so you can get tips and tricks to exploring the area. Looking to bring the kids back later this year for the fishing experience!

I loved the stay here and the hosts were very responsive with any of my questions. I would definitely do this again in the future!

Weekend Trip to Valhalla Tree Farm

We had such a great time the first time we stayed in the A Frame, that we booked it again. Our girls trip was perfect. The sleeping pads are plenty comfy, and the view is stunning. We brought our own water, but the kitchen had pots and pans already. My friend drove her minivan up the hill, which I was a little surprised, but she made it. I don't recommend it though. 4WD is best. Thank You again Shannon for another great stay.

3 nights at The Village at Rainier

I loved my time here in this lil cabin. I came here to do a big dent on the book I've been writing before the publication deadline. The space really helped me stay cozy, feel inspired, and was so close to many beautiful walking spots. It was simple and perfect for just me for those three nights. I wish I would have stayed more and I hope to return later! Random things I really appreciated: the delicious faucet water, many hooks for drying rain jacket and other items, good coffee machine, simple kitchenette, comfy bed, warm and simple heating system, good parking. Note to future traveler - the Google Maps will take you to the wrong place (it took me past the cabin and up a private driveway that was actually west/straight above the space). Note about walking in the neighborhood - there is an aggressive dog up the street northwest of the property. It was locked up most of the time in its trailer, so it usually was a non issue. When it did charge at me one evening, I stood calmly, didn't move, talked in a high pitch tone, and the owner quickly came out to get it. Unfortunately, another dog did get pretty badly attacked by that same dog during my stay. If you have kiddos or dogs with you, be careful.

Extraordinary views and delicious produce! This was a really special place to camp, enjoy the night sky and the expanse of the Washington landscape. Paulette was an amazing host and shared much about the ranch and its workings on the farm tour. Plus amazing pickles and meat from the farm store!

Third year on the Ronde. 2nd year at Boggans Oasis. Lucked into a cabin year 1 and used an RV this time. Tia is a great host and effective communicator. Lewis is a force to be reckoned with. Talking fishing with Lewis is always a highlight. Hoping to get in his boat soon and experience him as a guide.

Overnight at the Oasis

Boggan's Oasis is in the SE corner of Washington state, right on the breathtaking Grande Ronde River. Visitors can arrive by driving to the bottom of Rattlesnake Grade (WA-129), or the bottom of Buford Grade (OR-3). These two curvacious roads are extremely popular rides for motorcyclists and bicyclists nationally. Visitors may also arrive by water (rafts, driftboats, jetboats, kayaks, etc) coming downriver from Oregon, or upriver from the Snake River (WA/ID). Many other unpaved roads will lead guests to our canyon, which creates great opportunities for off-road vehicle adventures! The Grande Ronde River, which drains much of northeast Oregon's Union and Wallowa counties, is fed by snowpack in the Elkhorn Mountains. The Wallowa River, a major tributary to the Grande Ronde, headwaters in the Wallowa Mountains, mostly within the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Twenty-two miles from Boggan's Oasis, the Grande Ronde River flows into the mighty Snake River. The river is surrounded by steep, rugged canyon walls that rise 3000 to 4000 feet above the river level. Dense conifer forests blend into grassy slopes set off by scattered conifer "stringers." Called "The Land of Winding Waters" by Native Americans, the river is home to rainbow trout, dolly varden, whitefish, squawfish, suckers, bass, and steelhead. Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, bighorn sheep, bear, bald eagles, and a variety of smaller animals and birds can be seen daily. And yes, there are rattlesnakes! Fishing, hunting, hiking, all kinds of boating/floating, offroad vehicle riding, and animal/bird watching are beyond expectations in this area. Seasonally, guests can also successfully gather a variety of mushrooms and berries while on one of the many nearby hiking trails. Many of these short walks also lead to incredible, far-reaching views of the Blue Mountains, Wenaha wildlife sanctuary, Hells Canyon, and the tri-state area. In the hotter summer months, the swimming hole below the Boggan's Bridge is a popular way to cool off. Boggan's Oasis also offers fishing trips, float trips, shuttles, and a FULL restaurant! The trailhead for the summit of Whitehorse Mountain is just a mile away, as is Old Mine Road trail (45 minute hike ending in 2 waterfalls). A 15-20 minute walk takes campers to a swimming hole in the cool Stillaguamish river for a dip or a paddle. Even closer is Whitehorse Regional Trail (great for biking, walking and horseback riding) built on the bed of the former BNSF railroad through the North Stillaguamish River Valley, spanning over 27 miles. The nearly level trail meanders through the valley, rewarding visitors with picturesque, landscape views of forests, farmland, streams and rivers, and mountain vistas. Sites have a generous fire pit and access to a Porta-Potty. For bathing I recommend cool dip in the Stillaguamish River. In season there is also fishing, snowshoeing, concerts at the blue grass festival grounds, a rodeo, and so much more.

The Chuckanut Rock

Watch the sunset into the world famous San Juan Islands. Our property is located on the scenic Chuckanut Drive. It is a 15 minute walk to Taylor United's Seafood Bar that has beer and wine. You will need boots just below the knee, or hiking shoes that will get wet. The Creek crossing is a little deeper this year. You will also be crossing a muddy area for about 20 yards, you will sink about 3 inches into the mud. The hike into the campsite takes 12 minutes. You need to contact me to check the tides, as to be able to get to the campsite. We need to hike in below a 5 foot tide. Starting October, the campsite closes for winter. Again , this campsite is Tide dependent. The first question to me should be, What is the latest we can hike in? I am not Moses, I can’t part the sea.

I had been searching for over 2 years for a property where I could make a difference in the environment and live in the wilderness. I was looking for water on a large tract of land that was remote. In 2017 I found the perfect property and to my dismay it had sold 2 days before I saw the listing. I was shocked because this was the perfect property. In my 2 years of searching I knew exactly what I wanted and this was the property. It had a private lake with fish. A solar cabin with a flush toilet and hot shower. The cabins 8 foot windows faced West for magical sunsets and view of the storms that roll in from the coast. It was beautifully treed with just the right amount of open meadow and forest with Hemlock, Ponderosa pine, and Larch. How could this property be sold? I tried to let it go but thought about it for the next year. After a year and a half had passed and my search continued I came across an advertisement for this magical property, it was up for sale again. I called the real estate agent immediately and found that an offer had been made but the buyers could not commit for 5 more months. I made an offer that day not really knowing how I was going to pull off the money. I knew this property was meant for me. I wrote the owner a letter explaining that I was a land steward and that this land would never be developed. I would be putting it in a land trust where no developers could put up condos. The owner happened to be a environmentally focused human and he ended up selling to me. Come to find out when I had first saw the property sold a year and a half before, that transaction had fallen through. The owner had just taken it off the market for the winter.
